I've been fishing the senko for years and caught 1000s of fish on them my best advice is to keep it simple. My set up is a 6 foot 6 inch medium heavy spinning rod with a mitchell 300 X spinning reel. My hook is the only thing that is not the same as most I use a small 2/0 offbent hook. Some say the gap is too small but at the weigh in it seems to do just fine. It just gives it a better fall. And if u think u r fishing it slow enough, slow down.
My favourite rod has been a 7'6" Bass Pro Carbon Black (medium with extra fast tip) with a 3000 Shimano Symetre. This rod is VERY sensitive and well suited for senkos. However, it is a bit too long of a rod for real precision type casting and pitching like what is required for fishing docks. For that you'd be better off with something 6' - 6'6" in medium heavy to make up for the shorter length and to yank them away from obstructions quicker. I like 20lb hi-vis braid with a 12lb flouro leader.
i prefer to throw 5" and above senkos with a Denali Noirwood 6'10"MH fast casting rod, for a reel i like a 7.1 reel with 12lb floro.
if im going to throw the smaller 4" senko i throw them on a Denali noirwood 7' MF spinning gear with 10 lb powerpro with a 8 lb floro leader about 5' long.
i like the stiffer rod on my casting gear for the hook set power but everyone is differant in how they like their own set ups.
Unless your throwing top water get away from mono. Casting gear wise 12-17lb floro on a 7-7'3" medium to mh rod in fast or moderate fast action. Spinnini like to use a 6'6" moderate fast with 12lb braid and typically only use a 4" wacky rigged senko for the spinning rod only because I just use it for skipping docks.
Depends on the size. The little guys (3 and 4") I throw on a 7' medium fast Denali Noirwood spinning rod paired with a 25 size Quantum smoke and Power Pro Slick 10 lb braid. The 5" and up get casting gear, again 7' Denali Noirwood MH fast with a Quantum Smoke high speed casting reel and 20lb PP Slick. Those 5" Senkos weigh about a half ounce, they will fly a loooooong way on casting gear.
I always use a spinning rod when fishing senkos. I nearly always fish them weightless and they don't have enough weight to throw them with a baitcaster. Even if I fish them with a shakey type head or texas rig the weight is not enough to make using a baitcaster a possibility. medium or medium-heavy rod, 6'6" with 8 or 10 pound mono. I use mono because it sinks better than braid and I hate flouro line.
