I use a swivel, "no snap" between the braid and leader. I think I get bit more with a leader.

Kutt, so you are primarily using the braid for the sensitivity, not it's strength, correct? What lb test braid and fluoro leader have you found to work the best for you? What kind of knot are you using to join the two? I spooled up with 30# Power Pro to punch into thick pads, weeds, and brush. Would you still recommend a fluoro leader in these applications, or will the braid blend in with the vegetation and branches?

sweeperq, think of it this way. I go buy a $150 rod, super sensitive. I then spool my reel with 200 yards of stretchy mono. That long mono line is absorbing any feedback from fish or bottom. That super sensitive rod is not so good any more. Instead I spool with braid, that is high vis. I now add a leader, why not use a FC leader witch is harder to see under water than mono.

I hear about guys using braid with a 3-5' fluorocarbon leader. I'm sure the fluorocarbon leader is used so the fish don't see the line. But then, what is the point of using the braid? I want to use braid so I can fish those areas where my mono would get beat up or broken. If I'm tying on a fluoro leader, aren't I just re-introducing the weakness my braid was put on to avoid? Or am I misunderstanding braid? Are more people using it for its non-stretch high feedback properties than they are for preventing the loss of fish and lures in the timber and thick weeds?

I am a big fan of Berkly 100% Fluro... Hold up really nice and I have yet to loose a fish on it... I only use mono on top waters... I cant stand it! And braid on spinning and frog rods... Other then that fluor it is! Even when punching... 25 pound fluro is awesome!

I also used Fluorocarbon for the first time, it had to much memory and caused for a lot of tangles. I went back to Trilene XL smooth cast. Every type of line has its pros and cons. I just didn't believe the $20 was worth it.

I used Fluoro for the first time last year and was unimpressed. I didn't get any more fish that I do with plain old mono or braid, I lost numerous fish on break-offs (was using palomar knot), and even had the line snap mid-cast a couple of times. Don't know if I got a bad batch or what, but I'm not taking another chance.

Vicious Pro elite. Stay away from Stren Flourocast!!!! I lost some nice fish during a weeknight tourney last year due to this crappy line. I removed it immediately after the tourney and trashed it! The line had no strength and broke to easily.

Seaguars Red Label or Bass Pro Shops XPS are both very good.
