Bow vs crossbow

Need some input from some of you. I am contemplating on trying to get a crossbow permit. I know zilch, squat, nada, nothing about this except what they are and that you need a permit. I have shot one a few times but just messing around with a buddies. Do any of you know what the criteria is for obtaining a permit. I have got some shoulder issues and rheumatoid in my hands. I fight through it but the inevitable happened a couple weeks ago, couldn't pull the bow back. Tried 4 times and you know what happened.. Its happened once before but thought i was just to excited or something. Yes it's quite painful but it only last a couple mins then fades so.....So..any advise ??....Be nice, not lookin to start a big to do .

I got my permit this past season. I have had should issues and just finished my second surgery. You will need to go see an orthopedic doc and tell him what the issues are and that you would like to be tested for a crossbow permit. Then you will need to go get tested at a physical therapy center. Bring your application with you when you go. They will record the results on the app. and then your orthopedic guy will look at the result and sign your app. then just send it to the Dr. The initial permit will be good for five years then you will need to be re-evaluated.
