I have a friend who owns a 1995 Polaris Sportsman's 500 ATV. The problem is when he starts it, it idles fine; but when he gives it throttle, whether it be in forward or reverse gear, it pops, sputters, and backfires with very little power. Has anyone ever experienced this, or does anyone know of a cure. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Wet Pets

also check the air box inlet be sure there's nothing restricting it. when you pull the seat off there's a foam piece on the tube. sometimes it gets pushed up to far and restricts airflow. be sure to check and replace the air filter as well. there is also a rev limiter on that machine it's under the front hood panel it's a little black box. to test it you can pull the two wires off of it and see if it runs better.there is also a rubber hose between the carb and the engine that is prone to splitting which will also cause problems.
