Was out on Balsam last week, from wed thru sunday. My grandparents retired up there thirty years ago, unfortunatley had to move on twelve years ago due to health problems and property taxes....what a shame, the lake I remember as a kid is all gone, no more cabins and alumacraft fishin boats....million dollar "cabins" and tools with power boats that although they can afford they should not own seem the norm now.... it made me sad to see all the old cabins of people I used to know(grandparents friends) torn down.. only to have a monstrosity built in its place...Rest assured if I ever win the lottery I will buy all the lots on East balsam I can and kick these rich jagoffs down the road.. . The only thing that stays the same is everything changes I guess....

10 sounds fine to me. That makes a meal for 4. 20 for 2 people is a fry. Even with 3 or 4 in the boat we rarely keep more than 20-25 anyway. Sometimes waaaay less but thats not by choice.

Panny,

Walleyes spawn when water temp is 40-45 degrees, so they were done LONG ago on Balsam. Perch are done as well (45-55 degrees); crappie come next (58-68 degrees), then finally gills (70-75 degrees). Can't believe how early everything is this year.

Good luck! Swede

Have to go out in a boat an get em, should be a great winter bite an summer bite anyways, being it'll be a tricky opener.Good luck to all tonight, tomorrow, or whenever your wifes let you.

I was at the sports and home show overthe weekend at the fairgrounds, when I ran into someone who started bragging to me all the croppies he's been catching. One guy 200 plus croppies in the last week or so. He said he only kept 50 but I know this guy (fish pig). Now this guy last winter could'nt catch a meal to cave his life. AH DA We all should keep more fish when they are trying to spawn. Than lets see how many we catch over the winter months. I hope you get caught serious even if you are a friend somewhat. I want my kids to have fun too. I hope he see's this posting. Or anyone else who does'nt use there head.
