Was on cliff lake, right across the street from cedar in july. This was the absolute worst canadian fishing ive ever experienced. People from cedar were launching their boats on cliff trying to find fish. no luck. Go to minnitaki if u want good walleye action. ive always done real well there.

Got back home yesterday from fishing cedar lake from 21st-28th from Keystone Lodge. First time ever going to this lake. It was some very tough fishing like Shagboy mentioned. Went from 1 day being dead calm and 85 degrees, to 50's and rain / 30mph wind gusts, and back to 86 degrees again and sunny. had a heavy south wind almost the whole second half of the week. and like mentioned, water levels were supposedly about 2ft higher than normal.

The first day (sunday AM) was the best we did all week. within 2hrs we had our limit of walleyes out at Gull Island. many fish in the 14-15" range, with 1 at 18.5", and 1 at 20". The 20 incher was the biggest walleye caught all week, which was caught by my fiance. I caught the 18". otherwise all week long all walleyes were anywhere from 10" to 16", but almost always in that 14" range. which most days we kept our limit of, but had to work almost ALL day to catch that limit. On tuesday i only fished for 2hrs in the AM cause of the cold/wind/rain weather, and stayed in the rest of the day with a beer. so tues was pretty much wasted time. most walleyes for us were found in the 10ft-15ft depth range. some days we found our limit of walleyes in as shallow as 4ft of water directly on top of the rock reefs in a couple small bays. but all week there was no consistency at all. one day they would be there, and another they were no where to be found.

caught tons of smallies. if you were fishing rocks or shorelines they were there. most of the time we were just using jigs and minnows / gulp leeches / or nightcrawlers. ocassionally casting a crankbait or spinner and would catch them also. biggest was 15" with most in the 12" range.

small northerns where everywhere you could find grassy shorlines or bays. mainly 21 inchers or so on average. Biggest northern of the trip was caught , again, by my fiance at over 33". biggest one she's ever caught, so it was an exciting moment. and that was caught on a light/medium rod with only 8lb test line. put up a pretty long battle. was real fun to watch. We threw musky setups for a few hours a few days to pass the time, with nothing to show for it. had one monster musky (about 45"+) follow my spinnerbait twice to the boat with no hit. got my heart racing, but wasnt meant to be. All bigger musky/northern were caught or seen more toward the "spawning grounds" area.

All in all it was a good trip. the overall experience was great. not alot of fish, but still great to be out there. I would say between the 2 of us, we only caught about 80 fish the whole week, but didnt think that was too bad for never have fished it before, and the bad weather conditions. I am looking forward to trying this lake again next year. i wanna give it another chance, but probably more in the june/july timeframe. Seems thats when everyone says you get higher numbers of fish.

well got back from Cedar lake and what a trip we had.. it was the hardest week of fishing I have seen in 14 years. water level is the highest I have ever seen it 2 feet above the norm.

We did get some walleyes biggest one of the week was 27 inches. We found them out in 30 to 36 f.o.w. on the edge of the rock and mud line.. Lots of bait fish down there. all in all we did get about 150 eyes for the week between 3 of us. not our 5 to 6 hundred like we are use to, but that is fishing.

The musky fishing was good. My nephew got a 38 inch had one in the low 40s hit 5 feet out from the boat. I had one on in the mid to upper 40s (bad hook set on the 8 ) fish came out of the water bait went one way and fish the other way... Big fish for the week was my wife's first musky. It was 50 inches.( 49 1/2 ) but I will give her the 1/2 inch. we seen about 10 others.. 3 of them pushing that 50 inch mark.

really didn't try to much for the pike. not much for weeds this year we could fish into 4 5 feet of water witch other years you could not because of the weeds the biggest was 31 inches..

that is the report I can give you at this time going back up in 2 weeks

seems like everyone agrees that chartruse is the color to have. i will go buy a couple more packs of those this week. i am pretty set on 1/8oz jigs, so i think i'll be good to go! it would be nice if we catch fish on just twisters like you guys mention, then we dont have to spend as much on live bait! Big Smile

Kingbass - yeah i hope to be there at 3 or 4p for the orientation/seminar, but may be a bit late depending on how the drive goes. i have heard good things about Dave and Leanne, so i anticipate it being a good stay there. Smile

when we use tails on Cedar Lake....it is either chartreuse or black....3"....either 1/8 or 1/4 oz. jig head.

if we are using minnows or half a crawler we make our own jigs, but they resemble the ones used for tube jigs.....just plain jigs, no paint.....actually that is what we use around Gull Island.....

if smallies are in order for you.....any of the islands from Cedar Lake Camp down to Northern Lights resort are good.....just pitch a tail close to shore in the rocks and crank back....will get walleyes that way too....occasional pike.....

I quit using crank baits.....too many hooks to get out after the catch.....we do real well just using the jigs.....exception is musky of course.......

hope this helps out some.....we are going to try a fall trip this year too.....3rd week in September.......

another kicker.....I have a Humminbird with the Navionics (sp) chip and Cedar lake was on it...go figure....switched on the GPS for giggles to see if it worked and there it was.....lake, contour lines, the whole shot.....showed the reef out from the Cedar Lake Lodge Island.....good luck

Kingbass, how do you fish the reef at Gull Island? I have thrown crank baits and pulled down the reef and caught nice size all 20+. What tactics do you use if you don't mind sharing?

jsp, dave and leanne will put you on the fish! Great people! They have a fish seminar on sat at 3 i think. But if you don't make it to that they'll tell ya where to go and what to use. The reef out in front of gull island is my favorite spot on the whole lake for walleyes. have fun!

I generally use chartreuse colored twister tails. If I'm jigging For Walleye I use 1/8 oz. jig heads, if trolling will use 1/4oz. Have fun up there, Cedar Lake has always done well for us.

thanks alot for all the great tips guys! i really appreciate it. i will be sure to write all this down. now just pray for nice weather! Next friday (20th) cant come fast enough! I will be staying up there the whole week till the 28th. I feel like i am a pretty good fisherman and can usually figure out where the fish are... but when going to a brand new large body of water, it can get a little nerve racking to try and figure the lake out before the vacation is over. this will at least give me an idea of where to start! and like mentioned, hopefully the lodge will have spots to point us to also. just wanted to get some feedback from you cedar lake veterans that are familiar with fishing it already.

any specific twister tail colors that have produced better for you guys for the walleyes?? i have a pretty good assortment already, but never hurts to go buy more colors if i have to.

and about what size jig heads are you using?

thanks again! Big Smile

I have fished this lake the last couple springs in mid-May with a group of 6 guys. We have done well with good to strong catch rate of 35 - 70 per day depending upon how long we're fishing daily. Easy body of water to get around on and we stay at Cedar Lake Lodge on the island with Al (owner). He is very helpful with up to date info and guidance. I normally use gulp or twister tails and catch quite a few fish. Others in our party use the normal jig & minnow and do well too. We normally asre fishing 3 -10 feet of water and will also catch the odd northern or muskie. Lastly, we are going back for our third spring trip and we can't wait!!

If you are looking to catch Small Mouth on Cedar Lake give this spot a try. Go to the far SE end of the lake, below Convention Bay, check a lake map and you'll see the spot. The lake narrows and you will cross and old road bed into a small lake. Head to the water falls and the So. end, anchor in the rocks and start throwing jigs heads with twister tails into the rushing water and reel in as they drift down, if the Sallies are active you will catch with almost every cast. Keep your rod tip up and the jig moving or you'll get snagged in the rocks. It's a bit of a trip to get down there, but well worth it Smile

well, we went up a few weeks ago and had a blast. Weather was perfect. Perfect trip thru the border the way in and way back. For fishing we nailed the eyes. But this year many were smaller eater size. 14 to16 inches was consistent. We used jigs minnows and twisters and gulp for the eyes. most caught in 10 to 15 ft of water. caught our limits every day. Biggest eye of the trip was 22 inches. Usually we get a couple bigger ones but not this year. We caught lots of northerns this year. They were everywhere. Mostly between 22 and 26 inches. I did get a 34 on the first day there. We do alot of shoreline fishing for smallies during the day. This year was tough at the shorelines. The fish just weren't there. I started throwin some suspending thundersticks and was gettin them away from shore over the deeper water. I threw for muskies a few times and had 3 nice follows! One looked like a whale! Got my heart beatin but wouldnt hit. I did have a nice musky on a white spinnerbait but he inhaled the whole bait and cut my line. Bummer! White spinnerbait was the trick for all the northerns and lots of bass too. Have fun! I stay at keystone lodge. This was our 13th year going.

going up the week of the August 20th to the 28th.staying at Cedar lake lodge this will be my 14th year up there.

for walleyes I like to fish Saw mill bay,the narrows Hat field bay,East bay, gull island ,and convention bay them are all good spots the best tip I can give you is try all different depths when you find one depth the eyes are at they are at that depth all over the lake...we just jig them with a minnow or crawlers. blue glow. glow char/orange and orange jigs work the best.

for peach I would try fishing in the weeds 4 to 8 fow watch where the loons are diving in the weed beds they will show you were to fish for peach..

for bass I don't fish bass much so take this for what is worth I have caught the on share drop off shore lines and mid lake humps..

The best tip I can tell you is talk to your lodge owner and listen to what he is telling you.. he wants you to come back next year so he will help you out as much as he can or at least that is what Al an kim do at Cedar lake lodge.. hell that is what I would do if i want your business for the next year I hope this helps and good luck if you want you cam pm me

i am heading up to Cedar Lake for the very first time in 2 weeks and am counting down the days. I am going to be staying at keystone lodge. i was wondering if anyone can give me any good techniques to use during the last week of august, or any good spots you guys are willing to let me in on? I would obviously like to catch my limit of meals to eat, walleye, perch, etc.... but i would also like to play with the smallmouth bass if possible too. any techniques that would catch more trophy size walleyes in the 25"+ range would be great help too! Thanks in advance. Smile

Has anyone been to Cedar Lake in mid September? Just thinking of some place to go to have some action when I have another week off and would like to fish that lake. Any size to the walleyes and bass that time of year? What is the weather like?

Thanks for any info.
