Wanted to get a few of the boys out on the big pond and so booked a late summer trip with Troy and Josh of Kinn's Katch on the Obession IV out of Algoma. Had a lot of fun, caught 6 browns, missed 2 others but the highlight of the trip was this walleye...that's right I said walleye. I've been fishing the lake for quite a few years and knew it was rare but Troy said in all his years fishing with the Kinn fleet they have never caught one. The owner of the bar in the harbor said he hasn't heard of a walleye being caught out of Algoma in at least 20 years. So for a good laugh call Kinn's and tell them you'd like to book a walleye trip out on the lake.

not that I have seen. I do know that there are always a few in the ladder black as can be and early for the spawn, so maybe he is just one of those guys whose clock is a little off.

Has anyone else caught a king that is already in the change phase? Blackish color.
We caught this 14lb king Monday night in 130 fow with fly/chrome/blue flasher. This was the only fish that even hit that night. Belly was packed with five smelt/als. Full of large eggs. Isn't this early for this already? any thoughts?
Had a piece on the grill and it was off tasting and the meat was not flaky. I won't keep any more like this guy. Catch and release if they have the black tint.

Dropped lines in at about 85 FOW, and started marking fish. Pointed EAST and NE heading out just to see what was out there. Went out to 190 FOW without a single bump. I thought we better start heading back in for the night bite. Nothing hit until about 114 FOW and picked up a 6 # king on a mono rigger 68 DOWN on a Coyote watermelon mag spoon. Then nothing else at all. Marked lots of fish all night and didnt get anything else.
Tough bite still out there
guys are having a lot of luck by trolling the PK Flutterfish 3/4 oz and up catching salmon and killer browns.

what colors/types of bait were you using?
Fished sunday night 3 for 3, 2 kings and 1 bow. 1 on rigger, 1 on wire dipsy, and 1 on 3 color. Fished monday am 2 for 2, 1 king and 1 bow. out at 4:45a first fish at 8a had to leave at 9:30. 1 on rigger, and 1 on power pro dipsy. Talked to 2 boats each day sun both had 2, mon both had 0.
Girlfreind has me doing yucky couple stuff in door county this fall. I reluctantly agree under the condition I get to fish.
I'm thinking one night and one morning of shore fishing before I get sucked into antiquing and wine tasting.....
I'm hoping someone will PM me some nice shore fishing places; I checked on the map and have a few candidates: Stoney Creek outside of Forrestville, Silver Creek outside of Algoma and the Aphaee River. I fished the Aphaee a few years ago and found too many people.
Any advise will be helpful!!

No report, just a Q: PM me if anyone has a comment on this so LL won't be upset that we are taking up the website with personnal info. Looking at getting a downrigger probe system. Fish Hawk X4 or a Depth Raider. Sounds to me with the info I can get is Depth Raider you have a cable, with Fish Hawk it's remote. In any case, a FEW opinions of people that have one or had both would be appreciated as the cost is up there for me. I catch enough fish----sometimes---and don't know if it's worth the price. With the current the way it is on LM this year I'd think the lures aren't doing what we think they're doing. That's it, wasted enough space and time on this for this year. I'm just looking right now. Info is good if I can get it from someone that used either or both at one time. Thanks in advance for whoever might answer.
Just by chance, we happened to see a salmon swimming around loose with a chrome/green tape plastic flasher dragged behind it. Even with a two foot swell, Saturday morning, the surface was smooth enough that the metallic green flash caught my eye and then it's dorsal fin broke the surface. Soon after we had a second hit on my deep pound ball rig but the fish shook off. The first hit came just after we started at 8:30am. It bit the flame thrower spoon off the mono dipsey. We landed that king but the second hit on that same rig also got off so we ended up one fish out of three hits.
