What an opening weekend! The Walleye bite was fantastic and the weather was just as good. Last year we were thinking ice gear in the boat, this year its sunscreen maybe even shorts! Lots of 14-18" eaters coming in with a good amount of throwbacks in the 20-27" range right now. Anchor up in 20-27 FOW with a frozen shiner and a 1/4 - 3/8 ounce jig in gold, pink, green, or chartreuse and you are set!

We are currently fishing about 4-1/2 miles northeast of Long Point into 32-36 feet of water. Today’s fishing report will come from myself and our guides. Pink, White and Gold are still the magic colors on Lake of the Woods. Vexilars are not a must, but suggested…I won’t even fish if I don’t have a Vexilar these days. Yesterday we whacked the fish in our houses…the biggest Walleye of the day was 28” and every bucket was filled to the brim. The ice conditions are still good out on the big body of water aka “Lake of the Woods”…we still have over 30”. The lures showing the best success rates are the “Gold Disco Ball aka Strobe Jig by JB’s Tackle”, “Charmer Jig (Pink) by Tom’s Tackle, the Pink or White Florescent “Stop Sign”, “Macho Minnows” and “Chubby Darter/Rapala Rattling Jig” (all can be purchased at the Log Cabin Bait store approximately ¾ of a mile before the Wigwam on 172). Use anything that glows right now, whether it is pink or white. Also give the plain gold jigs/Disco aka “Strobe” balls a try. Good luck and Happy Fishing to all!

hey razor- fourth year at zipple bay. Great people and they work for the fish. We used to go to Sportsmans but it got expensive and I dont think they kept you on the fish, it's more about the great food at the restaurant and the bar scene. ( some pretty nice keepers). Had another great time at zipple I definetly recommend them over anybody. Hope this helps. Big Fish out.

Razor6483, my father and i and my grandpa and his buddy went out of Bayview lodge the last weekend of February. We have been there before and will continue to go back because everytime we are there we were on fish. Also, Birchview is a good place to stay. And you said you were fishing only 4 miles out? i think we were something like 8 to 10. Just trying to help out.

Just came back today after 4 days of fishing on my own. Ice is great. Road is slushy, do not drive on the road just too rough. Fished Thursday and Friday 14 mi from pine 37 fow. Thursday was ok kept 10 saugers on the small side. Threw back 2 times as many. Friday, things slowed down kept only 8 saugers. Even more small ones. Saturday moved into 2 miles off pine, 29 fow, greats morning of nice size saugers and walleyes but the afternoon only yielded keeper saugers. Sunday fished the morning, 2 miles off pine again, saugers and perch. Not much to write about. Ate a lot of fish, brought home our limit on a scale of 1 to 10 for LOW about 5.

This was my first Spring trip to LOW after fishing there for 15+ years. I would agree, if you have your own gear I don't like fishing with the resorts. It seems to be a hero or other when fishing with the resort. At least when the fishing bad and you are on your own there is nobody to else to blame. I think sportsman lodge does have good guides, who also help put me on fish and the resort is a good value from cabins to the motel, bar, and restaurant.

I would recommend Sportsman. Although the fishing wasn't always hot and heavy we were still able to put together a good fish fry every day with just the 2 of us. Here is a pic of Saturday's fish

Just got back from the woods. WE stayed at wheelers point and im not really happy with the way everything went. We caught only 2 keeper eyes and about 40 dinks in 2 days of fishing. We rented a shack from wheelers and we were only out 4 miles. We were told by them the ice past us wasnt safe. Come to find out they just didnt wanna move the shack out farther. We talked to numerous people at the bar who were out 8-12 miles and were catching fish. Wheelers didnt put us on the fish and we'll not be going back there again! Prolly gonna end up at the sportsman next time. Anybody have any advice on other resorts?

Tipupsonly Hey we had a great time sorry we didn't get in by u at Borderview lodge Saturday nite but got into a poker game in the sleeper with my boys(took them to the cleanersLOL) Anyhow it was a fantastic weekend of fishing, We came home with our limits of both eyes and sauger. The hot bait was the northland doodlebug's in glow pink or gold with a glow pink back also the northland dropper spoons in glow redfish. Fished in the sleeper about 2 miles off Pine Island then went mobile and after the morning bite ended moved out into deeper water. Shack was in 22ft and the morning and evening bite was awesome but would shut down around 9am then we would moved into 25-30ft and the bite was consistent during the day. No big fish to speak of over 24. We estimate we caught approx 130 fish mix of eyes and sauger.

Lots of action Sunday up North, Slushy roads made me happy to have a shovel and 4wd. Went out off Gull Rock in about 27 ft. fishing near bottom. We picked up 2 keeper walleyes, a hog perch, and a couple small sauger. The bite only lasted for a few hours if thats what you would call it. Next we made our way out to sixteen mile in about 30 ft. again near bottom. Picked up some real nice keeper 15-16 inchers and some decent saugers also. didnt seem to be any special color but purple and pink worked good, along with small jigging spoons, and rattling rigging spoons to call em in. In all we took 16 walleye biggest being about 16 1/2". 2 perch around 12" and 4 saugers. Fun time for all, except the 3.5 hr. drive from the range. If you still got a permanent out there I would recommend getting it off. Seen dozens of people stuck trying to pull off thier shantys. Lots of Ice still nearly needed extensions by Gull rock. "Happy Fishing to all and to all a good bite" Cool

Sorry, not a report. I'm looking to come up in June sometime. Just wondering if anyone has any recomendations for cabin rentals that are reasonably priced. If you know of one where we can rent a house boat too, that would be prefered. It would be me and my uncle. Thanks in advance.

Me and 3 other guys fished out of Bayview Feb. 26, 27, and 28. Kept 31 the first day, 30 the second day and 30 the third day. The biggest walleye we had was a 23 incher. Fishing was the best since i have been there, but we did catch alot of little sauger and walleyes but it was still a blast. I used my Humminbird ICE 45 for the first time out here and i loved it. I would recommend it to any serious fisherman. Overall we had a great trip. I will probably be back up there the same time next year. Good Fishing and good luck. Also, Bayview is a nice place to stay. It is right on the Rainey River and they have nice cabins and nice fishing shacks.

freshwater, Just got back today from a weekend on the ice at arenesens in a sleeper. They said the fishing was slow as we were at the last few days of the february 14 day lull. They said that the fishing will only improve from now until ice out. We were able to catch about 50 fish between 3 of use in 2.5 days of fishing. We were mostly using red or green rattle airplane lures with a minnow head and dead sticking with a small pink gemineye jig. That color seemed to out produce any other. first day mostly caught them jigging and the last day mostly on the dead stick. Fish close to the bottom, and use your vexilar if you have one. I hope this helps, it was the first time I was there, but if you have any other questions or suggestions for next year message me

BF
