Fishing Reports:
we can start by sending out a flyer in the mail informing the residents of a crack down on violaters, to start getting the info out there. kinda like planting a seed and hopefully it will grow just a way to start educating the masses.maybe it will help to start curbing there rudeness.i got 20:00 bucks for the printer. Ripper.
As much as I would like to see patrols for real safety issues... everyone better be careful what you ask for. Get some energetic officers out there sent on a mission to write tickets and stuff like mentioned below may become far more the norm.
I also have had the police boat check me while I was anchored and fishing... did the complete go through on boat, checking flares and all while boats were flying by even causing the police boat to bounce off mine from them going so close. One boat had a tube, driver, and no spotter, yet I was the one getting bugged for no obvious reason.
A bunch of fisherman complaining and making life hard for the police may get the opposite reaction we all hope for. Again, I like being proactive on the safety stuff, just seen this kind of thing go backwards before.
Generic response but I'll post it anyhow!!
Your email complaint was forwarded to me by the Town of Delavan Chair Dorothy Burwell.
Thank you for your information regarding boating safety on Delavan Lake. At the police department we deal with this issue every year. With the increase in the popularity of water sports, lakes throughout the area are dealing with the congestion, overcrowding and the associated problems that go with it. This is not a situation unique to Delavan Lake. Every year we look at different ways to address this issue with the citizens, Town Board and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
I can assure you that the boat patrol is out as often as possible and the officers take appropriate enforcement action. Unfortunately, issuing citations and stopping boats is not the extent of responsibilities of the patrol. They are responsible for responding to stranded boaters, alarms at houses on the lake, and rescue calls on the water, as well as crime prevention by patrolling the shores. These are but a few of the situations the boat patrol handles. Needless to say all of these tasks occupy our boat patrol officers’ time and it sometimes makes it appear to people that the boat patrol is not addressing the issues that concern them.
When the boat patrol is out they can be dispatched by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and they will respond to complaints that are called in. As in any situation involving law enforcement, it is most important that police are made aware of dangerous situations or criminal activity at the time it is occurring. This affords us the best chance to locate the people involved.
Feel free to attend any committee meeting or Town Board meeting when lake issues are being discussed to voice your concerns. Town Board and Committee agendas are posted on the Town’s website, townofdelavan.com. We would listen to and consider any suggestions you may have regarding these issues.
Thank you again for your concern.

I agree with everyone about the police. I just got a ticket a few Thursdays ago. ( there were only a few boats out) I was going 23 after the 15 mph at sunset. it was still light and honestly didn't know the official sun set time. they gave me a ticket for not having my negative terminals covered. I did have the positives covered. i guess its a new law so look out $68 dollar ticket. I brought a photo to court showing i fixed it and it was dropped but still a hassle and people were flying past me being "pulled over" Why are they out on nights when there is little traffic but not on the weekends when people are crazy?
I got the same response from Phillip Smith town of delavan pd. I don't know about anbody else but I can honestly say that in the past 7 years we have not seen the patrol out once, whereas other lakes(Geneva, Silver etc) we see them out almost every time on the water which is what you would except. If there is a thought in the back of your mind that they are there you will be more carefull. Just like on the roads, seeing cops more often and you are aware of them. Will try to find out when the spring meeting is and post. Hope to get fishing this weekend but will do before the knotheads get up. SM

I'm in. Sign me up. Last few weekends has anyone noticed the increase in sail boat idiots? Had a couple come within a few feet of me while anchored. Gill fishing has been kinda slow for me the last few weeks. Lot of small ones. I know there are big crappie in the lake but haven't found any this year. Tight lines everyone!

Fished this afternoon up to evening, mostly for gills and crappie. Caught both, but slower than it has been. Maybe the quick fronts blowing through? Nice afternoon with very little boat traffic, and generally cooler temps. Fall sure seems to be on the way.... only gets better from here, regardless if the fish bite more.
Watch locator when running trolling motor! You will see it in numerous places from 3-30 fow! If you're on big bass I'm guessing you're close to some as they have been keying on it out there this summer! It's also on hotspot map for a general reference if you don't have a lakemaster chip in your gps!

Not sure how it works exactly but other than lake lawn, which owes the city a ton of back cash and is in foreclosure, the rest of the lake is in the township of delavan think that may be where complaints should be directed. The police boat is out on the lake M-Fand just like eric stated looking thru binos at god knows what and on the rack over the weekend. Kind of late in the year to be griping but a good start for next season. Remember two things guys; Money talks and the stop sign does not get put in until some body dies(reactive society).
