About Us

Your Captain

Ahoy! I am Mike Williams, your U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master Captain. I am at your service for your fishing adventure with 10 years of Lake Michigan experience!

My knowledge of currents, temperature and lake terrain, coupled with high-tech equipment on board, will assure you of a successful adventure. The wind, currents and temperature are constantly changing. So my theory is: What worked today, probably won't work tomorrow - fish are on the move with all of the above factors plus a couple of others that enter into the equation of SUCCESS.

The Hawkeye

The Hawkeye vessel is a 26' Pursuit and is US Coast Guard Inspected annually. Designed by S2 yachts for inter-coastal fishing, the Hawkeye has all of the comforts for your Lake Michigan adventure. She is fully compliant with all USCG safety regulations and is fully insured with Charter Lakes Insurance Company. In addition, all fishing equipment and electronics are constantly updated to maximize your success.

The Hawkeye is equipped with:

• GPS Navigation
• Auto-pilot
• Fish Hawk-speed and temperature probe
• Fish locater with contour map
• Marine VHF Radio
• Cell phone
• Electric downriggers
• Clean, private toilet
• All fishing equipment: dipsy divers, slide divers, planer boards, wire lines, copper lines, lead core lines, etc. (and even some custom, secret flies tied by the Captain himself)

Communications between several captains provide us with latest information regarding where fish are biting. Believe me, some days there is way too much communication for the captain - between cell phones and radio traffic - I almost need a receptionist!

What To Bring

There are a number of items you need to bring as well as some items that are recommended or convenient. Please review the items below to make your adventure with Hawkeye Adventures the most pleasurable experience possible.

Required items:

• Valid Wisconsin fishing license with salmon stamp or 2-day license (available near the Kenosha harbor with 24-hour convenience)
• Soft-soled shoes (gym shoes or deck shoes)

Recommended items:

• Jacket
• Rain gear if rain is possible
• Hat
• Sunglasses
• Sunblock
• Camera (with extra film if shooting a film-based camera)

Convenient items:

• Small 6-pack cooler for snacks and beverages
• Large cooler to be kept in car, for transporting fish home

Temperature at dark on land may be 80 degrees but offshore it may be 50 degrees so bring plenty of clothes, as Lake Michigan waters are very cold.

Best Fishing Times

Kenosha has been consistently ranked as the best harbor on Lake Michigan. This is based on DNR creel reports submitted by your Captain after each trip. Kenosha is rated with the highest catch rate per hour.

Since Kenosha is Wisconsin's southern most port, Coho salmon are caught in large numbers starting near the end of April. Coho salmon are one of the smaller salmon species but are definitely the best table fare.

May and June are months that also see fast Coho action but could also include some Brown trout and Rainbow trout. Additionally, Chinook salmon are starting to show up at this time.

July and August are two of our favorite months in terms of quality and quantity. Outstanding catches of Chinook salmon along with the 4 other species are the best Lake Michigan has to offer.

September and October offer mature King salmon near shore while Brown trout are caught near the mouths of rivers and harbors. A series of underwater hills located 3 miles offshore provide some excellent deep water fishing as well.

So, no matter when you plan your adventure Lake Michigan will provide a diverse fishery to meet all your expectations.
