Lake Geneva Fishing Club
The fishing club began in 1965, spawned by an idea from pharmacist Don Kunkel. Don lived in the Lake Geneva area and loved to fish this great body of water . Kunkel along with other anglers, proposed getting together to share information. The informal gathering rolled along for about 3 years, and it was then decided to put together a formal club with Don Kunkel as its first president. Since 1968, the Lake Geneva Fishing Club has been meeting every month from March thru November..
As the club grew, the word spread and the late Bill Binkelman saw an opportunity to unite other local clubs. He came to Lake Geneva meetings and took an interest in two of it's members, Spence Petros and Carl Malz. When Bill thought of starting Fishing News (later changed to Fishing Facts), Spence and Carl became reporters, and then editors. So as you can see, the club has a deep history with some very knowledgeable alumni. We hope you will come visit us at one of our meetings and see what we are about. Our welcome mat is always open, and we’re also ready to help you learn how to fish the wonderful waters of Lake Geneva!
2011 177,651 Walleye. Quotas not yet stocked in 2011 are 26,310 brown trout, and 26,310 lake trout. 2010 188,966 Walleye. So thanks to Doug's off year request, we have Walleyes being stocked again. Also in Oct. 3,492 Muskies were stocked with right ventricle fin clipped. 27,005 brown trout and 27,005 lake trout to be stocked yet this year.
Members InformationWe welcome new members to join us for camaraderie at our meetings and events and we encourage all members to be generous in sharing information about the lake and catching fish. The Fishing Club of Lake Geneva is dedicated to promoting sport fishing for all species on Lake Geneva unlike many clubs that are devoted to one variety. We also encourage kids to fish and the club sponsors an annual Kids Free Fishing Day as described on our Kids Day page. In the spirit of competition, the club has season long contests in addition to tournaments throughout the year arranged by our Tournament Chairman but one does not have to enter contests to gain knowledge and pleasure from being a club member. We have a speaker; from members to top name pros at the monthly meetings. The cost for an annual membership is $40, there is also a family membership (husband, wife & children under 16) available for $65, there is a $5 initiation fee for new members. Tournament entry fees are nominal and set by the Chairman, we fish for fun and learning.
