Are they still driving out from the landings by Buffalo City? Should still be plenty of ice. Might have to hoof it. At least 2 feet of ice last weekend. Big pigs should be movin in anyday now.

cyberium99 ,

Sweet on the fishing!! That crappie was a slob and they are definitely there. Probably first ice?

It's funny how the fishing is on the back waters. The old saying is, "should of been here yesterday"

I'll be living on the ice when retirement comes. I blame my old man for that...LOL

Thanks for the report.

Hi marcum x !!

I'm itching to get up there and try my hand at it. We had very good bluegill fishing IN the late part of July on Indian Creek near Merrick State Park. It was awesome!!

There patterns change when ice comes in but I'm not sure where safe ice is to try. I have a good idea where to go. How is the ice? It's gotta be thickening up with this weather!!..LOL

I want to make a trip up there soon but it would be better if something is snapping. When I do I'll give you all the details on what I did. I CRP and take whats enjoyable for a nice meal.

Hope to see ya up their soon.

Ice Depth: 18" Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: Below 0° F Water Temp: Below 40° F
I was fishing the park from first ice until Christmas. LOTS of big gills, not much sorting. Then the crowd got way too much for me. I pretty much fish 5a and 6, with the occasional trip to Onalaska. Was fishing 6 today and caught about 40 crappies. Kept 5 for a meal and the rest went back...for next year. Lots of 9 inchers. I kept four that went 10-11" and one 12" pig. I'm hittin up another spot tomorrow to check it out, on 6. I'll probably hit up the park next weekend to see if I can get some flags to fly.

I want to start an informative Ice Fishing Thread for the areas of Fountain City, Buffalo City and it's backwaters.

I own property in Fountain City WI (next door to Merrick State Park). and I will move up there when I retire from the fire dept. soon. (can't wait) and I hope to meet many of you while we pursue the elusive Pannie's or Game fish.

I was born and raised in Lacrosse WI. I attended Logan High School.

I've learned how to fish, hunt (ducks/deer) from my father during my youth. The area of Lacrosse South/North of it is truly "Gods Country" You don't know what you had until you leave her. That's what I have learned.

I hope this thread will be an informative ice fishing thread where we can share our success, methods, areas of ice we are fishing and most importantly friendships.

We all have our secrets to ice fishing (my Dad would spit Chew on his hook)..lol and he out fished all of us with this method...LOL. Lake Onalaska, partly a flooded farm area, my Dad knew where every partial silo, stump, structure was so indeed he had the upper hand. That hand landed on my Butt also when I was insubordinate...LOL

I hope many of you from this area are on line and contribute to the thread. Will probably will meet at the local Pub sometime which in it's self will be great!!

Good fishing and Tight Lines to All !!!
