Mississippi River Stoddard Islands
Can somebody please post a ice report this weekend. We are planning our second trip this coming Thursday. Heard ther was 16" out by perch hole, but wondering about shoreline and channel in front of marina for 4-wheeler travel. We didn't do so good 3 weeks ago during high pressure cold front and want to redeem our selfs. Thanks for any info. Coming up from Kenosha.
Mybass, I was out there a week ago. if you go to Stoddard turn right at the Thirsty Turtle on center st. then turn right at the T Pearl st. then go down to to Waters Edge resort/bait shop. pay $3 and park in the marina. Then when you are walking out from the marina you will look off to your 2 oclock and see a group out about 500 yards. yes you will have to walk a ways. You will have an island on your left and 2 islands on your right side. its about between the 2 islands 100 yards off in 9 feet of water. This is the Gill hole.
I fished 12/29-1/3. There were air boats, hovercraft and 4 wheelers out. I went out of the marina and ice was good 9-12 inches everywhere including the perch hole. Other than the boat launch channel you should be fine everywhere. The ice was solid. Fishing for perch only and caught some jumbos. Lots of people at the bluegill hole everyday. You might want to try onalaska also. The bite there was more steady but lots of small ones. 4 wheelers all over there.
MOON PHASE (28%)
There is a large channel of open water extending from a ways North of the public launch running south for a long ways. The channel of open water is clearly visible right now but with the cold weather beware that the public launch is unsafe. I saw no one out this afternoon, even among the islands. Haven't been through the marina in over a week so don't know the ice held up there.
