Well heading up on Feb. 8th for a long weekend at a buddies cabin. I am the only one who hunts/ fishes and some reason my friends would like to try ice fishing. They all bought one day permits to try tip up fishing (this should be interesting....)

We stay on Alder Lake near where the river enters the lake. We normally catch a bunch of small pike, bass and walleyes during the summer. Hoping someone with local knowledge can help point me in the right direction for winter fishing.

We will only be fishing with tip ups looking for pike/walleyes.

Would like to get some more people I to the sport.

Thanks

Need some advice, coming up labor day weekend with the girlfriend, staying on Fawn lake and renting a pontoon from greers pier for one day, looking to get on some fish of any sort that would keep us busy and maybe give us something to bring home. Any ideas on some routes of travel, will have the boat from 8am to 5 pm. PM me if you dont want to give up the spots to everyone if your willling to share.

Thanks!!

Family coming up Saturday for a week on the chain. How has the fishing been? Looking mainly for panfish and northerns/muskies. Any advise on what lakes to fish would be helpful.

PODS, Clear lake is a very good choice. As you come in from Fawn, go straight out and then head to the left, there will be a bay and it's good all the way to the reeds. Stay between 8 and 12 feet, and you should find some action in the weeds. For some additional fun, put on a Johnson's Silver minnow and cast for the northerns in the same area, kids will have a ball. Another spot would be over by the red A-frame at the opposite end of the lake from the entrance from Fawn. Stay around the same depth as before from the A-frame to around the first pier to the right. I like using slip-bobbers with either a medium leech or a piece of crawler. I have younger kids and know what you mean about needing fast action.

PODS like the previous person said focus on weedlines and you will have a field day with the Bluegills. Also if you want a shot a smallmouth or two find any down timber near rocky drops between 6-11 feet and you can usually find some nice smally action on the chain. Have Fun!!

How has the musky fishing been on the chain so far the past week. I am going to be heading up from the 4th until the 22nd. I am going to be on the water a lot, hopefully the fish will be hitting!!

Hey PODS. Look for weed beds and fish in them or next to them for Bluegills. They should be biting then. Use a chunk of night crawler or gulp fish fry on a TRU-TURN #6 hook and split shot. Use a bobber or just fish over the side of the boat in the weeds. I fish Clear Lake quit a bit, Fawn is good too. I drift the bays with this rig(no bobber) and catch a lot of Blue Gills, I may keep 10 or so. A lot of fun.

Checked yesterday in a few spots...2-4 inches of ice..changes with each step...you might find more you might find less depending on where you are looking to fish on the chain...mobility  may be hampered due to ice depth.  Right now there is water on the ice (been raining for a couple days)  but when that freezes, should be good to go....bring creepers in case we don't get any snow...gonna be slick!   So be careful..I won't fish yet...to iffy out there right now....been above feezing for a couple days...
