I think what marbleyes is saying is there is no need to drill a dozen holes, fish in maybe 2 of them then leave. I have seen it happen many many times. For sure a head scratcher.. Smile And on top of that, the places they are fishing usually have a ton of holes in already ..

No if that's all you can afford great glad your out enjoying this wonderful sport I love so much, it's having enough common sense or knowledge to know what is right and wrong. I don't care what you think of why I posted what I did, I am still going to be out fising and it will not ruin my day. Trying to educate people on what they can do to increase there catch. I even offer to take people out and show em how I do it. To each there own, just ranting on how some people can turn a whole bay off by some of there actions. Me I get out before sun up and get my catch before most come out on the ice. 3-5 guys out yesterday with no moving here and there and firing up the auger every 2 min. And the fish were schooled up and aggresive. Today a few here there. I only go out to keep 10 pan fish as that is all I need for a meal for my family so no biggie to me.

No need to be so close. BUT, I don't think the fish here the auger motor. I've seen tests where the hand auger made as much noise. The noise the underwater is mostly the ice being cut. Hand auger takes longer, hence more of a noise impact compared to power auger. Just saying.

Agreed. No need to crowd people. And I understand they're loud and wouldn't like someone poking holes within spitting distance either. But from what it sounded like, the issue was them using it in spite of there only being 4-6" of ice.

Don't care what kind of auger you have but to start drilling 10 holes whithin 10-20ft of someone is just plain dumb. The fish are not schooled up so not like everyone has piles of fish laying on the ice. And a hand auger costs what 40-60 for a decent 6". But I am sure that's to much to keep the noise down and actually catch fish. Seen a guy today with a flasher spudding old holes using a new jiggler rod.I think he can afford a hand auger. My point is you do not need to set up so close I can hear your conversations inside my shack with the door closed. OK my rants over time to go clean my catch.

As for the need for power augers, I'm guessing the reason is that's the only auger they have. I'm in that boat. And I don't think they or I should have to wait for the ice to reach a thickness that other's deem acceptable to finally begin using it.

Yup, when u can get out on bago in 15-18ft pop holes all day no biggie in 7-8ft of water and it shuts keeper fish right off. Have been fishing the same holes 2 days now and the fish still come through just be patient and change up jigs if they will not bite. Took 1hr yesterday of changing baits till I got it dialed in. Calling it a day with 9 keepers again today too much comotion out here.

Just wait till the guy comes in and cuts 9 holes then fishes 2 minutes out of each and cuts 9 more. I think they watch to much tv on how the pros do it. Move move move thats the ticket! Maybe on a large lake but not in a small bay and shallow water.

Out right now and got to see one up close about and hour ago. Looks like scale color no sores or anything fish was very healthy. Got 9 perch and 1 gill so far lost a huge crappie at the hole and 3-4 missed hook sets. Lots of fish on cam bUT people making way to much noise and scaring the fish. Why do you need power augers for 4-6" of ice even a guy 20ft away punching holes with a spud bar. And they don't get it why they have no fish in there pails. Was nice and quiet yesterday and way more active fish moving around.

Nifty pics marbleeyes. I see Curious Bass has a dark/black blotch on it's skin. We caught 3 or 4 largemouth in the Fondy area this past open water season with that condition. Size range of the fish was 13.5" to 18". Unlike VHS it appeared to just be on the scales/skin & the blotches didn't feel any different than the non-affected areas of the fish. Has anybody talked to a biologist about it or know the biological cause of the condition? Just a genetic color variance maybe? I've researched it & haven't come up with anything. Last I knew there weren't any underwater tar patches for the fish to roll around in.

FISHING REPORT
12/17/14 6:07 PM CST
Ice Depth: 9" Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 21° - 25° F Water Temp: Below 40° F
Went out today for a couple of hours on the south end. The ice was 8-10 inches for a couple of wholes. Saw about 4 other shacks out there with us. Travel on the ice was fine there is a little of snow on it so it wasn't slick just still be careful. Saw what looked like a musky in the camera twice and that's it got skunked. Its ok that's why they call it fishing not catching! TIGHT LINES!!

Anyone been out in the past day or so to give an ice report? Just wondering how much damage the warm up did to it. I was planning on getting out on Poygan Friday morning but with all the recent posts it seems as tho it's turned off there so I'll stay closer to home and try the Oshkosh area bays. Ice reports on ANY of the west side Winnebago bays would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
