FISHING REPORT
8/13/12 8:22 AM CST
Got out fishing for a little each day only caught one smallmouth and then started fishing worms on the bottom and got into some gar with a couple catfish and mooneye mixed in we even caught one small white bass. This is certinly a diffrent fishery than what I am used to but look forward to figuring it out we had canoed from muscoda to boscobel.

Anywhere on the down river side of a sandbar (please do not wade in this area unless a life jacket is worn, very deep instant drop offs), fishing from any shore or bank above any structure (do not try this from a canoe though). A nightcrawler with a 1-2 oz. no roll or egg sinker should work very well for most fish. If you are able to find a nice calm backwater with little or no current, try a bobber and hook with a small spilt shot for panfish. But pretty much anywhere with a worm you should get something. If you want, PM me with your route and i will try to give you some specific areas to try.

Most importantly, be safe in that river it is very dangerous for inexperienced canoers.

Tried my luck for three hours in a new spot today. Picked up a dozen worms on the way out, and fished them on the bottom with different weights and hook sizes. I caught 6 Sheephead, 4 Bluegill, 1 Redhorse, 1 Small Catfish, 1 Sucker, Sand sturgeon and a softshell turtle.. It was a nice mixed bag today. River went up 6 inches while I was fishing. My rod holders where in dry ground when I started.

Got out for a bit two days ago. Fished Night Crawlers strung on 3/0 circle hook dragging the bottom of a nice mud flat. Hooked a nice Sucker and a heavy Bowfin (Dogfish.) Had two Bald Eagles keeping me company overhead while I awaited a lunker.

Fished yesterday afternoon for two hours. Caught 2 sheaphead and a sucker in the first ten minutes. Had several other hook ups after that and lost four sheaphead at the shore due to the fact there was a three foot bank and I forgot my net.

Been fishing from shore a few times in the last week. Not much luck for me since the river has gone up. Today I did end up with a nice cat and a 14 inch Smallmouth Bass both caught on the bottom with worms.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reports Fishinbig!

I live up in the Lone Rock area and always enjoy reading the lower Wisconsin River reports.

I have been doing a lot of shore fishing up near Lone Rock and have been catching the same mixed bag ( sheeps, smallies and a few redhorse). I have been targeting catfish, but not much luck.

I finally bought some of that Sonny's bait after seeing many people recommend it. So hopefully my catfishing will improve soon!

Keep up the good posts!

FISHING REPORT

Been fishing the last three days, haven't caught anything until today. I was fishing for Catfish and got a Smallmouth Bass off the bottom on a worm. Thanks Gerks, yeah I've had to clean up everyday since. I don't mind it. After I sort through the trash I find free tackle! Found some more yesterday. I would normally post that under the lost and found thread, but when you leave trash behind I don't feel so bad..

Caught 1 small sheaphead and another 5 pounder. Switched to sonnys on a Junnies worm. Got a 6 pound cat. It would be nice if people cleaned up after they fished, but I do have to say thanks for the aluminum cans, pair of pliers and the two lures..... Dont feel so bad having to fill a bag with ur trash now.

Fished three hours yesterday from shore. Only one sheephead. I gigged a frog and put it on a circle hook and threw it out there. Got a huge hit. Whatever it was stripped a bunch of line then it went slack. Still a good day to be out.
