FISHING REPORT
10/18/13 11:06 AM CST
Most major rivers in WI are exceptional w/ a bonus big fish of the day of many different species... These areas you can easily access and fish w/o backcast problems also... I'm a shore fisherman, so I've fished alot of flowing water over the past 35+ yrs. ... 3/4 of all my fish, as well as biggest of each species, came from fishing moving waters... Cool

I've never done well this late in the year-the bass aren't in their summer areas. I've tried fishing deeper pools late in the year without success.

Wondering how late the Black River holds for bass fishing. I'd like to get up once more this year with the flyrod, but coming up from Madison, so any info is appreciated. Thanks!

FISHING REPORT
8/11/13 8:51 PM CST
Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 71° - 75° F
Fished the Black River on Saturday the 10th, from BRF to just above lake Arbutus. Hit the water at around 6:30 AM. Solid overcast enticed me to throw top water. Had numerous blowups and several nice fish. Also saw 3 bald eagles and other creatures about. Action was good until the sun broke through around 11:30 AM. Then, everything stopped. Dead calm. No more eagles, no creatures and definitely no fish. Changed tactics several times to no avail. Great day to be out though.

I saw on the news that it is above flood stage (40 ft is flood and it is at 47 ft). I think it will be a few weeks before it is even close to fishable. Then, with that kind of water, I think this season maybe done for the Black River.

brf45,the water levels are VERY low you will find spots that your boat won't get through, so if you go get ready to carry your bout and all you equipment... doesn't sound like a good plan right now. You may want to check into this a bit more before going.

I fished the opener on the Black. Haven't seen it this slow for years. Two undersized bass and one keeper walleye. That's it.

How did everyone else do? What are your excuses?
