Just under 51 degree water temp this afternoon, one walleye, one smallie. The warm weather patterns are falling apart in a hurry

Out yesterday afternoon for about an hour and a half. 2 walleyes, no bass. Water temps down to 52ish, flows are moving pretty good but stable with pretty good clarity. Smallies have got to be moving into their wintering patterns already.

Ran around the river today for awhile. To my surprise not many people fishing. Tried a few spots but with the sun high in the sky I didn't do so good. Did manage a couple small gills and one small perch. Chunk or crawler and a light jig.

Out today looking for a big fish. One bite, one fish. Wasn't the size I was looking for. 18" or so. I know they're there and I know they're hungry. Now is the time to get your biggest smallie of the year. Water is down from last time I was out and pretty clear. 53.7 water temp.

Water Temp: 56° - 60° F
Out today for an hour or so. Wind was brutal out there. had 4 smallies, biggest around 15" dragging tubes on the current breaks. Pretty slow. Water temps are down like 10 degrees in the last week. Was 56 today, mid 60s late last week in the same areas.

FISHING REPORT
10/4/14 8:10 PM CST
Fished for an hour and a half. Finally got into a number of crappies. Actually caught more crappies than sheepheads. I have to believe things are about to improve greatly. Surface leaves and algae where nearly non-existent tonight. Caught about 15 crappies over 10". Slip & minnow in the rain. Very aggressive.

Fair enough on the spot sharing... can definitely see your points. People do take advantage of the generosity, without contributing anything worthwhile of their own, and I have seen the trash evidence myself. I would never ask for or expect anyone's specific spot... but general location guidance is a big help... I'm willing to explore, and that's part of the fun / challenge. It's been a big, frustrating river to try to learn. Have wasted countless hours on what seem like good spots, visually, only to get skunked. Thankfully, I have been able to find 1-2 spots that will at least give me some action every time out...even if its only a goliath Sheepshead. Got a couple of young kids who love to go with me too, but I've been hesitant to take them because of inconsistent results (boredom) & difficult methods required. Would love to find a few spots to take them where we can spend an hour and catch a few every time.

See you on the river!

Not quite 30 years for me but very close. I don't fish it as much as I used to either. When the factory (Foremost) was still around, I used to wait til everyone would leave in the evening and pound the walleyes well into the night. I miss that factory. That was the best set up in the area. Everything related to that current from under the building. That spot will never be the same, but it still attracts some fish. Spots have become more and more limited, and I think it has a little to do with a few wrecking it for the many. Mostly referring to litter. Fish carcasses, fishing line, empty worm cartons, empty beer cans, and empty cigarette packs to list the main culprits. I practice leaving a spot cleaner than it was when I arrived. This is another example of why many don't want to give locations. I hate picking up after others, but I figure I owe it to the land owners that allow me to fish on their property. They can take the privilege away and some have. Haven't been by "Foremost" since spring, but I've been down there fishing with workers present and not been kicked out. I was only kicked out once since the demolition first started. That was the very last day you could fish the current coming under the building. My guess is people are littering and not respecting the property. If you're told to leave, please do so. Fighting them will only make things worse. This picture is what it's all about!

Agreed. I have been fishing that river for 30 odd years now. It doesn't even look the same as it used to. I still know how to fish it though I don't as often as I used to. I, like most others on here will never give my spots out. We have all seen it, someone posts a specific spot then there are 30 guys down there until the fish are gone.

If you want a better report, go to a bait shop or sporting goods store and talk to the employees and customers in the fishing department. I work for a local retailer in the fishing department and love talking fishing with people. I have pretty much given up posting details on this site. Not worth it. I'll brag a little here and there, though. Here's my report: fishing will get better once the surface debri settles. You have to find the niches on the Fox. Time of day, bait, color, location. Has been varying day-to-day, but will become more predictable and consistent as fall progresses. GoinFichin is a river rat. He knows what he's doing, but what he's doing may not work for you. Keep experimenting. Find what works for you. Locations aren't given up for obvious reasons.

FISHING REPORT
10/2/14 1:14 PM CST
Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 66° - 70° F
New to Appleton, trying to find the "spots"...been out chasing white bass & walleyes from shore this week after seeing some of your reports that action picking up. Haven't had anywhere near GoinFichin's luck. A few smallies, only 1 with any size (14 in). Some sheepshead, including one that had to be 8-10 pounds... took me nearly 10 minutes to get him in, kept stripping out line every time I got him close to shore. Ugly, but fun. NO LUCK whatsoever with the jig / impulse combo, or anything artificial for that matter. All caught on crawler / sinker / wolf river rig.

My opinion, it's only a report if you're sharing some location info, otherwise it's just braggin'. So the best area for me has been the stretch between Lawe St & Old Oneida... no other spots have been producing anything for me. Have wanted to try the College dam area (I think you all refer to this as the old Foremost site?), but last time out I came across a city worker kicking fishermen out of the fenced area ...just FYI.
