Hello All,

Does anyone have an update on the current ice conditions? I'm moving to the area in two weeks and i'm looking forward to spending some time on the ice. Being new to the area, any additional advice for ice fishing on this lake would be greatly appreciated.

Big waves on the main lake, no ice that I could see, maybe north end is different

With that water temp the gills will be in, or at the end of their spawn.

Fished about 9:30-2:30 today. Tried trolling spinners/crawlers for walleyes off three weedlines. Nothing. Worked a little south of Sunrise with jig/crawler and slip bobbers. Several crappies and some sunnies. Did not keep any. One nice smallie about 16 or so. For such a nice day, pretty slow. Sunnies are interesting. One female with eggs. Others looked slim. Are they done? Orange jig and half crawler worked along weeds will get you panfish if you want them. Don't know what is up with the walleyes. Usually some small ones around the weeds...?

The Carp are spawning or doing something over by Fridays Creek in the bay by the Road going to Camp Wapo. They are stirring it up pretty good in there.

Anybody else got info on CARP? I'd like to try shooting some with a bow. I see lots of suckers crusing in 2 - 4 feet during the day, but not much for carp. Any areas and times of day would be appreciated.

I had the same luck last night, lots of panfish but had to pick through them. All real high above the weeds.

Fished about 9-1:45 or so today. Tried trolling for walleyes. No luck and lots of floating weeds. Tried anchoring and jog and slip bobber fishing, nothing either. Finally worked the weed tops with minimites and had fun with the crappies. Didn't keep any. There are beds in the weeds so gills or crappies must be on them. Carp all over. Nice muskies and some northerns cruising in there too. What a nice day...but the water is really warming up and I am sure Wapo will be green very soon. If you want pan fish, now is the time. I only worked the weed line south of Sunrise landing off the big brown houses for the panfish.

Went to Wapo about 11 AM today. (Had a successful turkey hunt...done by 6:30, so...) Beautiful day. Fishing was very slow. Ended with half a dozen crappies of nice size. Little of everything to catch them. No one spot was better than others. I think about 4 crappies I caught about a half mile south of Sunrise off the big brown houses. You find some cabbage mixed with the milfoil there. Some small perch hitting jig/minnow slow on bottom but not big enough. Milfoil is growing like crazy and the lake is getting green already. Male crappies were squirting, but females were not ready yet. Boat traffic was nuts.

Fished Wapo yesterday afternoon (wife went shopping on Mother's Day with the kids.....) from 1:30-5PM. Tried off the island and across from Sunrise landing. Nothing. Then went a little deeper off the bible camp (north one) and found crappies over the weeds about 9-10 feet. I anchored just off the weeds. Slip bobber and minnow. Kept about a dozen. Caught several smallish perch. Most fun was the muskies that cruised me! 3 times I had fish on and a muskie would slam it and be on for a few minutes. One had to be about 40 inches. Got some of the shredded fish back. Score - buchaye 2, muskies 1 crappie. It was like they knew what I was doing and were just waiting. Every once in a while one would go cruising under the boat slow. Crappies are close to spawn. Really nice sized.

Waste of time....Russels said hit wapo cedar is not good. Like any fisherman...I listened...Five boats out and I never saw a fish caught... Ran to cedar (5minutes from home) and killed the crappies...29 in total kept my limit and they were awesome last night for dinner. Cribs infront of meisters in 14ft of water.

"Tried" to fish Wapo today. Way too windy (30 mph gusts). No runs, hits, or nibbles. Just whitecaps. I wanted to get the boat out anyway and thought maybe I could find the crappies. 3 other guys out today in the misery as well. Did not see a fish caught. The Sunrise landing was nasty with all the crud washed in. BUT....there were some nice sunnies and a couple of crappies dead floating in there, so if we can find the live ones when the wind dies down.... Water temp. was 51.2 on Wapo and 52.4 in Beartrap by the highway.
