FISHING REPORT
6/10/15 8:04 PM CST
Conditions: Cloudy
Fished for two hours last Saturday (6/6). Anchored near the island in about 10 feet. Steady, but not fast and furious, action. Some nice sunnies (one or two still had spawn!) two nice perch, a few bass and one really nice striper (or are they white bass?) were the highlights. Slip bobbers and jigging with a leech were the approaches of choice. Water temp was 67 and the water clarity is starting to fade.

Lots of panfish on the weedlines off the bible camp by the narrows. I got into the crappies with plastics. Did not keep fish but caught about 30 or so. Lots of sunnies and the usual bass, too. Nice day. Windy in the morning.

Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 61° - 65° F Water Temp: 61° - 65° F
Friend and I fished a ton yesterday. Cold Front had come through, and the wind was blowing pretty consistently. Overcast morning produced 1 keeper crappie and 1 small bass. Mid-afternoon, sun came out and fishing improved dramatically. Keeper sunnies and some nice bass were abundant, especially on our time on Bear Trap (fishing the bay). Leeches were the order of the day, easily out producing both crawlers and fatheads. All fish were caught on slip bobbers and jigs. Most came in 7-10 feet of water. Find a weed bed and then fish the perimeters. The island on Wapo, typically a dependable spot, produced nothing. Clear water and a strong cold front has em hiding elsewhere. Water temp was 63, and the clarity is still really good.

Yesterday (Thur.) report. Ditto the day before. Kept 15 perch same size. Small jig/crawler and some slip bobber. Big problem, 1) muskies wanted my fish and kept cruising around and that shut things down. 2) wind. Lots of crappies yet, and sunnies including lots with eggs. Bass everywhere. Carp bow guys, now is the time! Lots in the shallows.

Fished yesterday. Went after perch and found enough for a meal, some very nice, scattered along deeper weed edges. Jig/crawler. But this lake is really going right now. Lots of bass, some very nice. Lots of nice sunnies (yes, they have black spots) and some crappies. Even got a decent northern jigging. Not every weed line has fish but when you find them its almost every cast.

FISHING REPORT

Finally got the boat out this weekend. Saturday night, fished for about 90 minutes near the island...a few small bass and one nice sunny. Sunday the rains came and were steady all day long. We were bored so we beared the weather and went out for about 2 hours. 4 of us fishing (2 kids, 2 adults) and we caught over a dozen fish. All 7 sunnies were keeper size (and all were post spawn). The bass were mostly modest, except the stripper...biggest one I have seen from the lake. It was over 2 lbs. My 10 year old daughter hooked it so she was elated. Fished all along the east shoreline. Water temp was 61...the water is VERY clear right now, so all of our success came from casting away from the boat and most of it in 8-10 feet of water. No pike or walleyes to speak of. Used jigs tipped with leeches and crawlers. I hope to spend some considerable time on the water this coming weekend.

Drove out at sunrise landing and headed north within a 100 yards of racetrack and fished on 12 fow and did pretty well until the wind blew us off the lake. Caught some very nice perch mixed in with sunfish. No crappies.

Ice Depth: 28" Conditions: Sunny
Hey guys!! well i made the trip up to Wapo from Eau Claire and was pretty happy with the results. I fished the north end near the island. Drilled holes until i found a little drop from 6 feet to about 10. Marked fish in every hole i punched which is pretty cool.

I used gold tungsten and a lil' cecil yellow/orange both with BY Baits plastics. I used their super minnow and mud bug mainly in white pearl/pink and copper. caught a lot of crappie on those as well as gills. The gills were pretty short but the crappie were not bad. not big for sure, but they would pass to hit the fryin pan. I didnt measure them but id say about 10 inches was the average. (what id call a keeper i guess) after about 4 hours i decided to try and get some bigger crappie and started rippin a gold/copper chubby darter. only got 3 crappie on the darter but they were the biggest ones i got. soooo i guess it worked for its purpose. On the ice around 11 stayed until dark.

For those of you that live up in the amery area you have a fantastic lake there. Gorgeous scenery and i can see that lake really crankin out the piggy gills and crappie. Great floor structure and transitions plus there is no shortage of weeds from what i found.

Stay safe and good fishin!!!!

Thinkin about cruising up to Wap on saturday. Never fished this lake through the ice or open water. 2 questions. What access would you guys suggest to get to where most folks fish crappies perch gills. Is there any particular depth or area of lake that most people concentrate on?

We will be driving up from eau claire and would just like a general jumping off point to narrow the focus. Just looking at it there seems to be alot of depth change and bottom change. couple that with the size of the lake (looks pretty big on google)and it could be a bit daunting.

Thanks for any help you guys might provide. Feel free to PM me if you dont want to clutter the thread with non report posts.

Thanks again guys and gals

PS 3rd question lol. how is lake travel? I drive a 2 wheel car not a truck. Is there a plowed road like lots of other lakes?

Stay Safe and Good Fishin!!!

Drove out on the lake 02/28/2015 and saw very few fishing. I don't know this lake very well. Does it usually have good ice through out the lake? I am interested in fishing the Southeast end near the mouth to Bear Trap lake.

Fished Saturday on the north end. Managed 17 but lots of small fish in the area. Buddy of mine did manage to pull out a pretty nice white bass from a tip up as well (first one I've seen on the lake).
