Bobit, the fall run is a lot different than the spring run and is far less predictable. Much has to do with how much current there is. The more current, the farther up the river they will go. I have had years that the only bite was down near the rat river and little to nothing north. Last year we were north of Fremont. You have to be willing to move a lot more in the fall. I cannot answer the Rainbow Park question but I would bet it is a similar response.
To answer your question as to the species of fish jumping in the Wolf, it can be any one of them. Some may be breaking the surface to eat bugs or dead and floating bait fish. Others may break the surface to shake parasites or because they are being chased by bigger fish.
The biggest I had ever seen break the surface was a monster of a sturgeon that was easily 6 foot long.

New to the area. We've been fishing from shore a little bit most evenings sometimes in the morning south of HWY 10. From June to early July we'd been getting quite a few small mouth and occasional northern casting 3" plastics or small red/white daredevil. But last few weeks the small mouth and northern have both dried up we've gotten a few walleye on the daredevil around 9PM.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what species is it that we're seeing jumping out of the water so frequently now?
Thanks.

June 2, 2023 (Friday)
Launched under Bridge, but 9am, fished between bridges about 2 hrs. 4 WB.
Went up.thru town, tried rock wall a few but too many boats. Seen a few caught here n there, but couldn't get in where I wanted, so moved ?
Struck out just down from Red Banks, until another boat gave me a tip about the hole they were in.
PIcked up a dozen in 90 mins. ( Thanks guys ! )
Took nice easy boat ride to Gill's, to cool down a little and tried there. Only caught 2, near ramps..
But, several on shore were getting them slow but constant. Roughly 8, in 1 1/2hrs.
Much better than I did there.
Back down drifting rock wall, with no luck, until most boats moved out, about 7,8 pm.
Finally got set up where I couldn't earlier,
Enjoyed live music from Nauti Turrtle, beautiful full moon and sunset, at same time, and ended the day right, with 33 WB, in less than 2 hrs.
Wanted to stay a little longer, but mosquitoes were draining me.
Want to say water temp was 76 to 78, but honestly, don't remember.
It was 92°, in the sun, almost no wind.
River level was very low, with almost no current, in most spots.
9 females out of the bunch, with no eggs.
Only 3 makes had a; little milk left.
Just my opinion, but think we're at tail end of the run, unless we get some rain to cool the water, bring levels up, and get current moving a little
There's still WB around, but you have to search for them, or be patient, wait for a small school to move thru.
good luck, and
Tight Lines !

Sorry for the late post, haven't had a chance to get on here...
Was around Red banks last Wed. 5/24., 11pm til 7am. .water temp was 66, due to cold the 2 days before. Warmed to 69, when I left at 8am thurs.
Anchored in a few holes I know, got nothing.
By 1am, I found them.
White Bass were under Red Banks piers, in fastest current, but tight to shore.
3ft to 1oz or 1 1/2oz weight, 4ft to fly with minnow.
Tried hopping the rig down the ledge, cross current, got nothing. .
Once I started slowing it down, just slow retrieve, ticking bottom, with a little twitch here n there, it was game on. .
9 casts, 9 WB.. !
67 WB, in 4 1/2 hrs. And I wasn't hitting them hard. A cast here n there, sipping a drink, as I enjoyed the peaceful river, reminding myself, this is what what life is supposed to be like.
Out of the 67, 11 females, no eggs, rest males, 56,.. , 2 wher milking.
Color of fly didn't matter.
As long as you cast into the sweet spot, let current take 3/4 or 1ox weight, hit bottom, take up slack. Then slow retrieve, lift rod tip enough, to bring weight up 2,3 inches, stop, wiggle it a little, and reel slow, raise rod tip, just enough to tick the bottom, bam..hooked up,, every time.Best part, is the were all hooked right in the side of mouth. A quick pop with your fingers, fish goes on ice, bait another minnow,n
Your ready to cast again.
The fish will move around. Could be there for a while, then out of nowhere, it's a ghost town. You gota hunt them down Again.
I think that's the part of fishing I love most.
Your on a hole,, catching one after another,, then bam,, they're gone. And the hunt is on ! ! ! Start looking at currents, depths, wind, water temp. You read the river,
Look at the banks, changes in current, on the surface, anything to help find that next school of fish.
Start working every little spot you think they're at,, until smack, that fly gets hammered. Good luck. .
Please try to take a few minutes, sit still, and let this amazing place take all the negative energy out of you.
I don't know why or how, but, if you give nature a chance, she will revive you.
Normally, when I sit down, my whole body feels like it's going 100mph inside, and my brain won't stop running in circles.... after a few hours on the water, this sense of peace comes through me,there's no way to describe it, but it feels amazing !
I'll be back real soon, need more of the medicine that the river gives me.
Good luck, and tight lines.
Here's the 1st bucket, about to become dinner.
I rushed trough the 2nd, so I could get back out, so I missed getting a picture. No big deal, they all look the same. Lol but it woulda been cool to have the pic.
I pray this lasts another week or 2. I need a few more days, to calm this madness inside of me down for good.
Good luck, and tight lines.

I have never caught a Muskie on the river but have caught numerous northern! One year about 10-12 years ago, I caught a 39” fish in the weeds across from the rock wall on a 1/4 oz jig and fathead! I still have the scar on my finger where he caught me a good one when I tried to gill him as we had no net in the boat! I still look at that scar and smile! Funny how fishing memories remain fresh in your mind! Now I have the privilege of being able to spend time in the boat with my son and hopefully soon my grandson will pick up the urge! He gets bored too easily! Please remember to take a kid fishing and forge memories that they will carry forward! Tight lines!
