I'm looking for places on the river that a guy without a boat can catch some good sized panfish. Any help would greatly be appreciated. PM if it's semi secret. I won't tell. Big Smile

A few nice walleye today and some decent pike were caught as well by fellow fisherman, there are quite a few eyes holding in the eddies and,if you are patient it will happen . There are tons of bugle lips but they are fun too ! Cool

All of the dams in Janesville are blocked off due to safety ? The bait shop owner Shawn is not very happy but he stated it's just a bump in the road and hopefully it wont last long.

Is there anyone on here that is looking for a fishing partner? I love to fish but dont have a boat. I have lots of gear and experience, but no boat. Shore fishing just dont cut it. Other than the dams, I dont really know where to go around here. Id really like to learn to fish the river and especially how to nail some rock river walleyes. Fishing shoulder to shoulder at Indianford isnt my idea of fun either. Im a teacher so I have lots of time in the summertime. Thanks ahead of time. Smile

There is access to both dams in Janesville. The upper dam (centerway) is very difficult to fish, the current is too strong. The lower dam has some fishable slack water that I have been frequenting for the past couple of weeks with unimpressive success.

Two weeks ago there were a LOT of pike in the area, pushed right up against the shoreline. My last couple of times down there I haven't run into any or talked to anyone who had.

I did manage one walleye, about 14.5 inches, but that's been it--maybe 7-8 hours combined fishing time.

If all your looking for is a fight, the suckers/carp are hitting (and being snagged) by throwing artificial--jigs mostly.

Be prepared to lose a lot of tackle.

Fished below happy hollow all the way to 1st train trusses to Beloit. Great stretch of river just not this time Of year for me. Great place for the smallmouth. With no wake restrictions it is long trip. Around the park itself i haven't found any deep holes. At the train truss there is a 20' holes. With water up an additional 3-4 feet current is ripping. The creek across from power plant was empty except for a couple carp. I do way better for walleyes at the dams. Downtown janesville, or the stretch towards indianford.

The rock is not stocked from indianford to state line. Everything you catch from indianford to stateline is from a self sustaining fishery. Call Curt Welke 608-273-5946 rock river fishery manager if you have questions.

the rock is not a self sustaining fishery it is stocked by the dnr .that is why the season for most game fish is open all year. Angry Worried
