Wow I just realized that its been 7 years since I posted on this thread. In adition to the other species I listed before we also catch crappies,gills/sunfish, and believe it or not muskies. Not very big but yes muskies. Im thinking the big ones live in the pond behind 7mile fair.

Well let me tell ya... 35 years ago we young fellas would dig up some worms put a split shot about 1-2 ft above the hook and throw it out as far as we could. Then set the pole in a notched branch we'd stick into the mud and wait. All the wiskered fish you would want to catch. Good Luck. Big Smile

I was out there today with my grandpa near 5 mile road. He managed to catch a decent sized channel cat while I got three sunfish (2 of which were small) and tiny smallmouth. I also hooked what seemed to be a HUGE carp but it snapped my line as I tried reeling it in. Anyone else have success bobber fishing in the Root (above the dam) with worms?

PARFISHUNT is right. I use to live down behind Island Park and I use to go home and drop a line in and drink a couple of beers. If you are below the dam it is a great place for Trout and Salmon in the spring and fall. Good luck and God Bless.

I live on the root river in Caddy Vista off of hyw. 38 and have been told by many people that it is a dead river above the dam by lake Michigan. Well mind you it's not a world class fishery, but I pretty much catch fish year round. Catfish and bullheads are my most popular catches. Huge carp are also present (aren't they present everywhere?) And believe it or not if you hit the water conditions at the right level and it's the right time of year there are also some pretty nice pike in there to. A while back I caught a nice catfish, about 20in. or so. I don't fish it that often but it can be fun just to throw a pole in the water right behind your house and see what you catch.
