Wind Lake

Now I know why I hunt in October. Decided to take my neighbor out for northern. I’ve caught some nice ones in the past here. He pickles them. Fished spinnerbaits and swim baits for about an hour. No bites. Decided to switch to panfish. Some Dinky perch, couple dinky bluegills, 1 nice bluegill, 1 14” bass. That’s it. It was breezy with white caps, but still, I should have caught more. I suck fishing in the fall. 

Was out on Wednesday, 6am to 130. Not a cloud in the sky. Winds picked mid-morning and whipped up algea and floating weeds. Early was best 6 to 9. Bass were active then on east shoreline along piers and weed edge. Nothing  Tried spinners, tickle tail, jerk bait and paddle tail with a "trailer spinner". Nothing touched the spinners all day to my great surprise. Those have always work out well. Perhaps the lack of intermediate clouds impacted that. Jerk bait was the winner of the day. No pike till about noon. Had some follow ups before that. They too were in the same spots as the bass.
Overall the fish were all healthy and strong. Biggest bass of 6 was 16.75 and of the 2 pike were 24 and 29.5

as far as I could see, the lake is open except for a strip of ice on 1 shore. 1 empty boat trailer in the launch lot

The whole east shore is still locked up as of yesterday. there was 3 boat trailers/trucks in the DNR  launch area.

Saw the first boat on the lake yesterday. The only ice that is still there is around wood island
