Fishing yesterday was fair. I fished near the high banks again. I managed 15 nice crappies and 1, 13" walleye. I fished about 3hrs in the afternoon.
Fishing was slow today only managed to catch 5 crappies from 10:00 to 3:30. I hope the warmer temps tomorrow get them going.

Fished Friday mid-day and Saturday until about 11:30 in 22 FOW in the high banks area.
Crappie were biting both days, as per usual they come and go. Managed 20 nice cleaners between the trips out, not bad, only fished a total of about 5 hours. Threw at least as many back, many smalls and a few big breeders. A few perch and some walleye in the mix as well, but nothing to keep.
Minnows deadsticked, or spikes jigged were the best baits. Glow red and glow pink were the best colors. 3 feet off the bottom and down. Would jig them up with the spikes and they would hit the suspended minnows which were at 3 and 5 foot off the bottom. Best fishing was from 10-1:30 (normal for that spot). Overall the bite was very light, missed a bunch at first, then switched to tiny treble hooks with the minnows and was more successful.
Travel on the ice was very good. I'm certain there remain some trouble spots, but the vast majority of the lake is safe for travel in a car or truck, just stick to the roads that are out there.

Fished for 2 hrs Sunday, got 4 nice crappie (11-12") and missed several others at the hole or on the way up. Biting very light. Minnows or spikes and plastic all worked about the same, but the bite was very light.
23 FOW in the high banks area. Expect to be back out this weekend, will post a report the same day.
For Crappie Guy- There are several places to stay on the lake. Paradise Shores is under new ownership, and from what I hear is nice. I think Pine Drive has winter rentals as well and their restaurant is pretty good.
There are many good places to eat in the area. A long time favorite is Big Swede's, but Johnson's Crossing gets great reviews and Ted's Timber Lodge is a great setting. The Holcombe cafe is a great place for breakfast or lunch. Huge servings and fantastic bakery and omelets.

Managed to get out twice over the New Years weekend. We caught two walleyes in about 8 FOW. Both came on blue jigging raps tipped with a minnow head.

Parents told me that lake is frozen over. In their small bay there was about 3 inches as of Saturday. I'm sure there is more now. This was out of any current so those areas may have less ice.

Regarding a contour map of the river; I'm not aware of one that goes much past the Hwy D/E bridge, but my experiences fishing north and west of there are that the river becomes pretty predictable regarding depth and holes are where one would expect them to be.
I haven't fished as much the last couple weeks as I normally do, and haven't had very good luck when I did. I have managed a few crappie and a few smaller walleye, but only a few. No specific pattern has been best, but the fish I did get were on live bait jigging or on small crank baits cast along breaks in low light. A 6-10 foot weed edge has been the best for me. A few fish in the timber on the river channels, but not as many as usual.
Hopefully stable weather will promote some good fishing soon. The lake is clearer than normal for this time of year, algae bloom is just starting.
