Got 22 off second point in deep water, one right under 12", 6 about 10" and the rest 8" to 10",spoons with waxies, moved in for gills in the afternoon and never marked a gill, first time in awhile I didn't get a white bass or any none keepers, mendota was great last summer for me and now have got limits or close to on most perch trips, hope mendota is coming back to what it used to, anyone else notice the more people catching and keeping cats the last 5 years and now the perch numbers are better, I wouldn't mind if guys got 100 cats a day and keep them all.

Tried west side weeds and edge tonight. Only out a couple hours before sunet. Looked into deeper water (40') and didn't see anything else cruising. No flags, but was in a good spot. Probably had to wait it out past 6 I guess. Beats working tho.

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Partly Sunny
I was out Monday not much luck. I moved alot and saw one guy pounding them. He wasn't too friendly with any info so I moved on pretty quickly. I am new to this and have been doing some things wrong so I'll post up my mistakes in case any newbies are on here ...maybe it will save them some time. I have flyfished for trout my whole life in streams and never fished a lake really in my life.
1. Use light line for a leader. 2. Tie a correct knot so that the jig is "free".
Seems pretty simple but the difference between 4lb and 2lb leader was big. Same with the knot.I didn't get any bites the first two times out and after I changed these two things I started catching a few.

Hey everyone, I will be fishing lake mendota for the first time tomorrow around governors island and was wondering if there are any areas that are dangerous. More specifically I plan on heading out to the deeper water (60' to 80') trying to find some perch. I've never targeted perch before so any tips or info on what their biting on (waxies, spikes, minnow heads, etc) also would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Was out Friday off Gov Island, did OK on Perch. Only 1 small one but still was thick enough to clean (8 for me 8 for my buddy in only a couple hours).
Tried Saturday same area and barely anything. Couldn't find the fish and they wouldn't come through like on Friday.
Set the steele---Where on Mendota were you with that powder snow on the ice??....

FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 14" Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 11° - 15° F
Went out Saturday during the day I moved three times and didn't mark anything in any spot. First time out on this lake and every hole I drilled by the boat house and towards university bay I had 10 feet of water tried for deeper but didn't find any. Just wondering if this is usual on this side of the lake or what I should be looking for to find fish. I was near others but not sure if they were catching any or not. Just wanted to know what others were trying and if they were catching anything. Thanks for an info. I'm not looking to keep the fish just have a fun time catching and releasing with my friends.
