FISHING REPORT
5/22/13 3:55 PM CST
Fished yesterday from 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fished deeper green weeds along the break lines in 12-18 fow. Had to anchor and fish because my trolling motor took a crap. Managed one nice crappie on a chart/orange mini mite and a few pike on jig/shiners. Casted cranks up shallow at dusk with negative results even though the fish were busting the surface after bait fish all over the place. In the past few years I have seen an increase in pike numbers and a decrease in walleye numbers. Anyone else have the same experience? Could be that I'll have to switch up presentations/locations to find the eyes but what has worked for me in the past is no longer effective. I was the only boat on the lake. Water temp averaged 68 degrees.

FISHING REPORT
5/11/13 12:43 PM CST
Conditions: Cloudy
Made it out Friday 5/10 from 10am-5pm. WINDY, cloudy and brisk all day. Water is still cloudy, no water temp, friend still hasn't figured out what's wrong with power to the new sonar. Didn't expect much after the cold front blew through Thursday night. HAD to stay out of the worst of the NNE wind. Very suprised to catch 5 LM the first hour to hour and half.
Ended the day with 15LM, 1SM, 1 rockie. 1-16", 4-15", 2-14" for size. Everything caught shallow, we tried the drop offs and immediate flat below the drop off looking for bigger fish, nobody home or not interested in our offerings. Tried cranks ( deep and shallow ), jerkbaits and jigs with no luck. Caught everything on soft plastics only 1 on a jig (shallow). No dominant color, started the day with shiner colors working, mid to late afternoon dark colors seemed to work better

FISHING REPORT
5/10/13 3:23 PM CST
Conditions: Raining Air Temp: 41° - 45° F Water Temp: 56° - 60° F
Well made it out today to get used to the rain and wind since that is what Sat. is going to bring. Well as for fishing 6:00am to Noon had one fish on about 30 inches but when I grabbed for net he shook the bait. It was a Pike not what I was looking for but I will take it on days like this. Did see quite a few Walleye in 2 feet of water on sand flats at about 9 which I thought was a little odd but hey what do I know I am just trying to figure things out a little better so maybe someday I could Guide. lol yeah right. Well anyways good luck out there and if you ever see a baby blue Shell Lake with a ton of sticker stop by and say hey you cant miss me.

Conditions: Sunny
Stayed home this weekend. Rotten east winds. I was at a seminar once and Joe Bucher was speaking. Someone asked him what he does on a day with bright skys and east wind? He said, "yard work". Love his honesty. I did yard work. Maybe next weekend.

FISHING REPORT
5/5/13 1:02 PM CST
Conditions: Partly Sunny
Got out for the opener from 7:30 - 3:00pm...started out cloudy, wind NE, water temp 51. By days end it was sunny, windier, water temp up to 55. Water was cloudy, also encounted a Mayfly? hatch around noon for about an hour.
We tried worms, tubes, gulp leeches, cranks (deep and shallow ), spinners, jerkbaits...very slow day. Fish definitely have not moved up yet. Caught a 12" shallow on a worm, caught 2 back to back in 8 fow on a worm. Focused on drops and the deeper water off the drops after these 2 in 8 fow and nothing to show for it. Tried a lipless crank and caught back to backers and that was it for the day. 2-12", 2-14", 1-17" all LM, all swimming. Got checked by the warden, told us somebody reported catching a 22" smallie. Didn't see much being caught. Water was clearer on the west shore ( and the sun came out ), we saw MANY walleyes laying on the botton in 10-15 fow over their frisbee sized sand spawning spot, they were hunkered down, didn't even move when trolling motor kicked on. Also saw 3 different pairs of musky's in the river within 200 feet of the launch, one of them was definitely over 40", very cool every year to view these beasts just hanging out.
This warm stretch should get things moving for bass in the next few days.

Pay no attention to the conditions. I am a smart aleck. I think the lake association likes it when the river is all jacked up with trees and debris (rhymes nicely). Less people on the lake. If you ever run into the Town of Oconomowoc Police, you will see what I mean. They and the residents are about as welcoming as the North Lake bunch.

Yeah, I remember seeing this sign by the mouth of the river "NO BLUEGILLS OR CRAPPIES ALLOWED!"

I was able to weave my way through the river today but it got a little hairy with the strong current, downed trees made things tighter then last year.

Getting down the river won't be a problem, but getting back against all that current could be a hassle. The water is really blowing through there. Be careful cuz once you are down, there may not be a way back. You would have to park your boat near the road on the north side and walk to the ramp, then get your rig, drive to the west side and have your partner drive the boat over there. That said, the sign says no fishing within 500 feet of the dam. There is a time period but I am pretty sure is until end of June. So let those fish at the dam get all intimate and leave em be.

I believe there is a sign right by the launch that says where you can and can't fish, i haven't been there since last year, but i thought it said you can't fish within 100yds (don't quote me on the distance) of the dam.
