The crappie fishing has been good off of Monroe Park, so yesterday Roy and Ron went with a huge torch and the plow truck and made ramp wide enough for trucks again. Trucks without running boards can make it now without a problem, with running boards....check it out first, but you'll probably be ok.

Brute I was on the lake from 3/5 thru 3/8. We accessed from Monroe Park. There is a huge heave right up to the boat ramp. No problem going up an over on a 4 wheeler or snowmobile where folks have knocked it down from traffic. That gap is just wider than a set of truck tires and you better be ready to leave some paint behind if you try, I wouldn't. In our four days on the ice we saw two trucks who came out that way, together. Don't know which way they went back. Most guys seemed to be using the Lure. The bite was completely dead all day for us everywhere except the large group you will see fishing crappie by Monroe.

Can someone guide me in the right direction? I'm looking to fish Petenwell on Thursday for the first time. I don't have a four wheeler or sled and was wondering where I can walk to from any launch(up to a mile) to get into some decent fishing? Thanks

FISHING REPORT
3/12/13 6:00 PM CST
Fished off off Long View today. Walked out straight east to the channel. Was the only guy out there until late morning when two guys hiked out too. Marked fish all day, but hard to get takers. Those that did were very very lite biters. Ended up with 7 crappies, one white bass, and one cat. There is a crust on the ice with several inches of water underneath. Walking wasn't bad at all though. Stayed on top most of the way, only broke through the crust a few times, mostly near shore. As far as I could see no-one drove a vehicle off of Long View, however there were still vehicles heading out on the ice from the Lure. A couple headed due west, but most headed south and then west off of Monroe Park. On another note I miss Jessie's reports! I understand his low profile after being dissed by some jerks, but I'd like to convince him to start posting again. His reports are very informative and valuable to me. Bet there's alot more who feel the same!!!!!!!!

Yeah, forgot to thank rat for that comment- made me laugh too. Actually, he was fishing pretty close to my house as I am 2 miles east of the Lure and several hundred yards north. And yes, he was fishing in a pine plantation to be exact. I'm done ice fishing the flowage this year. Going golfing next week near St. Louis and then getting the boat out after that and hitting the river. Be careful out there guys!

Start your efforts more so on water temp than date. If you need to plan long range for vacation I would give you a April 15 date. We fill coolers up when water hits 45 or so degrees. That's gonna be far later this year because last year was a exception. Generally after the eyes are headed back the whities are moving up in force. 1st week in may I'd always a killer week to load up bigtime. Throw flies on a 3 way and you'll destroy them!

I know this might be too early to ask but does anyone know when is the best time to fish for whitebass belowthe dam? Early April, mid April, or late April? I have a feeling ice fishing is just about over and just wanted to know when the best time for whitebass fishing in the spring time. Thanks.
