Baits Motel There are several bad ice areas on Beaver Dam lake. There is lots of good ice too. The last we heard, the aerators are running out by the Spring Road area. Also there has been a crevice from Edgewater going north. Carol heard that was about 2 miles long. This lake also has springs that can make the ice unsafe in areas that were not a problem in the past years when the water was higher. Spring water is 54 degrees. That's hot water this time of year and it's this year the ice you are standing on is one foot closer to it. For visitors to the area unfamiliar with the ice, please don't drive on it. Yes, there are people driving on it, but just be advised that this lake can deceive you. There are pressure cracks that form in the cold, causing heaves and open water here. Just please use good judgement, just like when we all pick up our trash from the ice right?
The hot color for crappie right now is red. Red plastics, red jigs with silver blades, Cecils, Tungstens. Live bait trends are Red spikes, Red Fathead Minnows(Rosie Reds) and regular crappie fatheads. Golden shiners of all sizes, as the northerns, walleyes and yes, wonderful catfish are biting. Answers to most of the phone calls we are getting is, yes, we have more tip up lights. No, our rental ION ice augers were sold, but we hope too get more in this week. Yes, you can rent the big new Argo in the showroom. Yes, we have Omni batteries. No wigglers, no helgramites. We still have smelt. We wil get more propane tomorrrow. We do not have Coleman lantern fuel. For Jiffy parts please see Tim at Fish Tayles in Fox Lake. He is an authorized dealer. The walleyes have been smaller this week for those who have been toughing it out there in the cold, you are the masters. For those about to fish, we salute you. Baits Motel
