Heading up to High falls today for the first time this year, will be up for 4 days. Late start to my fishing season, to busy at work. Will be concentrating on Walleyes. Any current info would be helpful. Had a great year fishing for them last year. Caught and released all except for 3. Will share my results upon my return. Good luck fishing to all.

went out friday all day. 10 ft of water and slayed some pig crappies. Biggest being almost 18 inches! Perch and Bluegills scattered in 5 - 10 feet. Wind trolling Bass Bay was the trick! Saturday only managed 3 keepers and threw about 10 back around 8 in. Too much traffic spooking the fish. Great weekend for fishing! Tight lines. Big Smile

Well, was really looking forward to fishing Friday night after a long hard week at work, when I was taking off the cover of the boat at the cottage when I noticed some jack wad stole my prop. I was not very happy, stainless one at that. Did yard work instead when my neighbor come over and said he might have a spare for me to use so I could get out..thanks Todd! Did not get out till Saturday morning, checking out the rock piles for eyes, only managed 1 undersize, had a few other hits, but that was it. Went looking for gills for a 1/2 hour, not much going on yet. Noticed alot of fish suspended out in the big bay as I was putting around, did not check it out though, probably crappies. Still ticked off about my prop, went back and got more yard work done. Anyhow, only a couple hours on the water, try again in a few weeks. Water level looked normal, weeds coming in nice, tight lines!

Wite,

I was out last Friday and all the bays and shallows are pretty well filled up with weeds. Tried to ride on the west side of teachers island to avoid the chop in my small boat and ended up chopping weeds the whole way. Got in to bass bay and it was really full too. Went up to the north end in the morning and the bays and inlets were pretty well filled up too. Very little on the surface, but 6" down was thick cover anywhere shallow.

Had good luck on bass up near shore where the weeds opened up into sand. Overall, lots of weeds in the shallows.

How is the cabbage out there? Has is started to thicken up or is it still manageable? Any info on the weeds is greatly appreciated!

Water Temp: 61° - 65° F
Fished Sunday from 7am till 6pm. First time fishing this body of water from a boat, so it was a definate learning process. Caught most of our fish on the calm side of points and islands. Only got one crappie, which was on the first cast of the day. Caught 30-40 bluegills, but had to really work for them. They were tight to shore, and you had to find the warmest water to find them. I had water temps between 60-65 all day, with 65 being in the back calm bays. Got one 18" smallie on a flu-flu and minnow, fishing Crappies. Tried for walleyes around Chocolate drop, and a few other spots, but no such luck. I was more suprised we didn't catch anything else while fishing for the walleyes. No pike or bass or anything. Released everything, and settled for a steak from Meatski's. I will be back up at some point again this summer to try my luck again. I wish I could have stayed a week, but no such luck. Saw a few waterskiers, and lots of pleasure boaters.

Got the cottage opened and cleaned and had a chance to shake down the boat for a few hours Friday night and Saturday morning. Looking for crappies and I did manage to find some spawning on some wood up by party island, few perch, few bluegills in the usual spots and 4 eyes on the humps. Saw a few others pulling an eye in from time to time. Chart jig/leech was the ticket, kept 2 at 16" & 18", nice meal for me and the daughter. Slow going, but was happy to get out for the first time. I think anyone up there this week will hammer the crappies. Eggs were fairly firm yet, good luck and tight lines!

Water Temp: 56° - 60° F
I managed to find some crappies last week, Friday through Monday, but didn't catch a lot of them. I think the cold front last Friday may have sent them back into the deeper water. The water temp was 57 most every where and 60 or so way back in the shallow bays. The crappies I did get had spawn in them but it was still pretty hard. We did hit the gills good. They where in 6 to 10 fow anywhere you could find green weeds, which was pretty easy. I used an ice jig 18" below a pencil bobber with wax worms or a piece of crawler. We had plenty for a couple fish fry's while camping and still took some home. There were a few boats by the bridge looking for crappies but they were not there yet, at least not a lot of them. We got a few bass casting the shorelines, I didn't try for walleyes.

Camping at Twin Bridge was nice last weekend, pretty quiet. I'm sure the campgrounds and water will be the typical zoo this coming weekend.

Just looking for some info on the crappie bite. I'll be camping by Twin Bridge this weekend and wondering with this cold weather if they were biting yet. If nothing else I would think the little ones should be hanging around by the bridge. Thanks

To also answer your question......in spring I have had luck fishing bass on the Northeast side of Teacher's island.....that area has heavy weeds, but in the spring, they aren't quite touching the surface yet.....I like to use a buzzbait and drag it across the water back in there.....

Caught 2 nice 17in large mouths last year in a hour on opening weekend.....one of them is pictured in my profile pic......Once early June rolls around, and the weather warms up, it is very difficult to get back in that area with the weeds.....

Good luck......

To answer the guy bringing up his gf/ son. There is current but you wouldnt/dont notice it. There generally a lot of boat traffic do tuck in by an island. Bobber fish for pannys. Shallow bays have bass/ northerns. Around the bridge can be good but too much traffic. Out not to far from any landing can be ok ad well. Good luck.

Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could share the ice situation up there. Is there a lot of ice? no ice? I live in Milwaukee, so our temperatures and weather down here has been a lot different. Looking forward to getting back up soon for some spring fishing, although it will take the water a long time to warm up this year.....Thanks!
