I fished the bridge alot in the late 70s until about 1990 and although it could be crowded people were really friendly and considerate. Used to run around netting fish for folks but then it started to change and I gave up and went to the boat. From what I've read this year I'm glad I did. Good luck up there till the bridge is gone which I hear is going to be soon.

Satellite, It is up to the individual.

Last night I had a group of about 5-10 people to my right who looked to be of the same family. They knew what they were doing as far as catching fish, but were very inconsiderate of others with respect to tangled lines, and the language barrier was difficult to breech. It felt like they literally did not care that by their carelessness they just ruined someone else's chance to catch a fish by. On my left were two guys who also spoke with an accent who were absolutely wonderful to fish by. Just depends upon the people in the group. I hope they enjoy the bridge rod holder I gave them.

I have fished the bridge on and off for about 10 years and have a had a few good times. I'm glad I had the chance to experience this unique tradition, but at this time I think I am done with it. I sold my remaining rodholders this afternoon. Time to move on to other things and other places. Best wishes to the guys on the bridge who were really great. I totally respect and admire your ability to catch fish and tolerate the crowded conditions.

FISHING REPORT

Water Temp: 51° - 55° F
Fished from the boat 6pm till midnight. 7 walleyes, 5 whitebass and 1 sturgeon. With the fish I saw caught before it got dark I was expecting a quick limit once it got dark. I was wrong. The 3 of use were using rigs & leeches. Biggest was 23.

Is the bridge really worth all the hassle???? It seems to me that all the fighting and inconsiderate people wouldn't make fishing it fun. Is a fish really worth it??? don't get me wrong i'm sure its not all the people on the bridge or all the boaters below but IMO it seems to be a big joke that you have to wait to get a spot, barter for a spot on a free fishing bridge and fish within inches of other poles.... all for what, a fish that you had a miserable time catching. Just my opinion.

Current flipped around and started going backwards this morning. Not much going on. Lost a couple missed a couple bites and managed one spawned out female. Seen a few others caught but it was real slow. We quit when there was no sign of the current switching around..

Sure was good weather last night for fishing. I spoke with DNR of Oshkosh he told me some fish never made the run up river. I am interested to see how this down run goes? Been out a hand full of times with lots of dinks in Fremont and no white bass from winnecone or fremont. A weird run for sure this year.

Thanks Chemist - we have multiple license holders in the house and of course do not bag/freeze the fish by angler, just date and location - we eat em fast enough so it's not an issue anyway.

Hey, DNR folk, please chime in because sometimes the reg's are a bit fuzzy (I know you must read the posts). Fish or hunt, I have gotten my kids solid on following the reg's: nothing is worth loosing priviledges.

Chemist, don't you also post on Big Cedar?

That is the rule Blue. You are correct. However, if there are 4 licensed anglers in the house, people will often keep 40 fish because you can't tell who caught them unless you were watching them for a while. I think that would be really hard to prove.

This is a question. Using walleye as an example (5 fish daily limit), I understand the regulatons as this: if on the shore, bridge or in a boat, the most I can have "with me" is 5. If I am traveling home, the most I can have is 10 (assumming that I caught them on two or more days - midnight cut-off). If I have 2 in my freezer at home than the most I can have is 8. You can never have more than 10 - even in the freezer. There, is that convoluted enough.

Fished with flies off the docks. Apparently no white bass as of last night. Probably 60 boats 20 below the rest above. Bridge was packed on the upstream side with rods 18-24 inches apart. Didn't see much getting caught for the hour I was there.

Sorry, I was just repeating what I was told. And Uncle Kenny got his limit in his boat so not everyone got skunked.

As for the guy who said I lied, people like you are the reason I don't post very often.

And Randy you are right I should just let them get caught. Sounds like they deserve it.

Informational only

Dogmeat Boy, I appreciate sharing that the DNR is out and the level of visibility they have. However, information like this can be very beneficial in aiding those that are double dipping limits. The heads up gives them a reminder to be extra sneaky or lay low for a couple days. Where as the loss of a few more walleyes may result in a very good bust for the DNR. I personally would like to see double dippers loose their cash, gear, and everything else that can constitute restitution for their theft of our resources. If you do observe and report those exceeding their legal limit, the DNR always has a better case with witnesses. The DNR enforces the law, but often we need to be the eyes and ears of those who try to cover so much territory.
