MOON PHASE
First Quarter

Mike booked a guide trip for 4 people with me on Saturday, I have fished with the Petitt family many times over the past 10 years, Truly a great group of guys who love to come up to there cabin and enjoying there time out on the "Pete"

Saturday we launched the boat from the treatment plant in Nekoosa, Water temp was 37.7 when we hit river, time we left around 2 pm water temp was 39.5 water was still on the low side, only had one gate wide open till mid day before they opened up the 2nd gate.

Saturday we started fishing down river in deeper holes, mid day we worked are way north towards the launch, fishing slack water in front of creek mouths. 1/8th oz jigs tipped with large fatheads worked the best for us.

Anyone looking to get out on the river, I have the 24th,26th and 27 open this week.

Good luck, be safe!

Here are the jigs Tony and I used Saturday. They increased the flow rate at Petenwell Dam to 16,000 cfs today, so I might have to go to 1/4 ounce in the am.

Please tell me how you were able to fish a 1/8oz jig. Were you completely out of the current? Was it getting to bottom?

MOON PHASE
First Quarter

Tony from Salem, Wisconsin booked a morning trip for Saturday. We launched at Nekoosa and 6 am and headed down river to fish some deep holes and edges on outside river bends. We both jigged one rod with a 1/8 ounce jig tipped with a minnow, and soaked a dead rod with a minnow just above bottom. I took less than 5 minutes and Tony boated his first crappie, and walleye he ever caught. The bite after that was pretty consistent. We easily boated between 40-50 fish. A good time for a person to learn how to target and get the feel for jigging walleyes.

Many times we both had doubles on our rods at the same time. Most fish were smaller males in the 13-14 3/4 inch range, with a few just touching the 15 inch line on the bump board. All fish were released. The water is still about 2 1/2 feet low at this time, hopefully it will start to rise with the warm temperatures forecast throughout the next week.

Keep a tight line!!!

Also interesting, of the 7 fish we cut up none had any minnows or any food in them.

Picked up 18 today. 7 keepers. All males. Nothing over 18 inches. We had luck both drifting and anchoring in the deeper holes inbetween the two landings. Jig color didn’t seem to matter. Yellow, green or pink all took fish. Colder morning was slow, action picked up with the sun. Had a surface temp of 40.5 at 5pm

Finally time to put away the snow shovels, get the kids off the video games, grab granny and go catch some eyes!

Great day...consistent fish most of day...some big some small a few in between.  Found them deep shallow and also in between as long as there was some nice rocks to bounce baits off of.
