Sorry that this is not a report, I did use the non report button on the page.
Could someone please post snow totals for around G. AND A.A.
THANKS it is appreciated.
Was on the River Thursday & Friday. Thursday - boated one 17 and one slot, 3 shorts. Friday roughly 25 shorts from 12 to 14 1/2, no keepers.
River was flowing pretty good Friday, trouble shooting into dock by water treatment.
Want to give big THANKS to the local who helped us navigate the river on Thursday.
Braved the weather for a couple hours today from shore. First cast yielded a nice 24 incher. After that it was carp after carp snagged. Water is up just over summer pool and moving fast with one full gate open and another about 3/4 open. Water is like chocolate milk with a lot of debris floating down.
Happy to be posting for the first time. Went out on Thursday from 3-7pm. was fishing in about 8 ft across from boat ramp and to the south about a 1/4 mile. Used 1/4 oz jigs in pink/yellow and junebug to keep it right on bottom. picked up 20 with one keeper. Only 3 fish on down rod while jigging. Best bite came on the end of the swing by gently twitching as jig was rolling. Contact on bottom a must. Water was way down still. Is this April or February???
I have had a lot of guys calling and asking about water levels, conditions and what launches guys are using on the river. not much has changed from last week. water levels are still very low, with very little current flow. this should change mid week with warmer temps.
Boat launch- Only launch i have seen guys use this spring is the treatment plant launch.
Have any other questions on the river or booking of guide trips, feel free to call me on the number below.
Good luck,be safe!
I saw 1 truck use the plank hill launch on Monday or Tuesday with a small trailer so it is possible to use depending on how small your boat is?? I fished yellow banks last night with a slight snow and it wasn’t as good as Tuesday but it was ok and I ended with 1 keeper and no slots! So IMHO the spawn is a while away yet and I believe there are still a lot of fish coming from the lake!! So obviously we need more flow and warmer weather!! My only tip for anyone coming up this weekend is without a stinger hook I probably wouldn’t have caught a single fish!! They are biting very very very light!! Good luck and tight lines! Casey
The water is still low but slowly coming up! The rocks are under the water and lost maybe a foot of shoreline but plenty of great shore fishing yet for rubber boots or the good old waders!! Didn’t get to fish today with the wife coming back but wish I would have got back out right before dark with the next weather storm! Sorry for non report but just wanted to confirm that water is still very low but is coming up ever so slowly!! I will be trying Nekoosa again tomorrow so if you’re out there stop in and say hello! I’m the guy in the black suburban!! Tight lines and better times ahead!! Casedog
007 is correct this year is definitely different!! I was so excited to have the whole first week of April off((planned way ahead of the miserable weather)) so when I finally got up here and ready to fish(( Sunday)) I headed right to Nekoosa with my waders cranks and plastics!! 6 hours of wading from the porta potty down to island and couldn’t catch a cold!! Monday(( I think I saw 007 that night if you’re still driving a Ford)) was more of the same except tried using live bait to no avail?? Ok so I’m up here all week and have abandoned Nekoosa and have been fishing near yellow banks and yesterday I couldn’t keep the fish off my hook and it was a great day of catching eyes of all sizes with 3 keepers and 3 slots to show for my 3 hour effort in the snowstorm!! Just got back to my spot today and only 1 small one so far in an hour!! What a difference a day makes I guess?? So my report is I’m sure there are plenty of fish in Nekoosa but my guess is either there in the deep or I don’t know how to catch them?? As far as the whole system I know there are still plenty of fish coming up yet based on yesterday’s stellar performance and you could darn near ice fish the main lake if you had a 50’ ladder to get past the bad shore ice but it would be extremely dangerous and probably not worth the danger but the lake is still completely iced over besides the shore and anywhere north of Longview!! I would appreciate any help (PM) about Nekoosa because I would rather fish there and if not I will stay close to yellow banks because I know I can catch fish here so my best guess is there in the middle of channel at least here on the south end of river!! FWIW The fish I was catching during storm were mostly on gold silver and any type of rib worm worked pretty aggressively! Hard to keep a clean line with lots of leaves and sticks being caught which never helps! Good luck to all and tight lines! Casedog
