Was on the river last Sunday noon to just before dark, caught a 16-1/2” fish two minutes in and thought I was into something, wrong. Had maybe 10-12 fish over the next four hours or so with one nicer 23” female spilling eggs. Moved upriver and pitched the shore and found a patch of gravel loaded with males, pulled around 40-50 fish from it and ended with 4 legals. Fish were as tight as a foot from shore and anything farther than 6 feet from the bank was a waste of a cast. Trying to make my mind up on whether to go north for walleyes on the opener or go back to the river for some white bass, anyone getting into decent numbers this week yet?
Wisc. River - Nekoosa (Walleyes)
MOON PHASE (97%)
71° - 75° F
Went sunday from 9 to 3 with a buddy and still managed to catch 40 with only one over 15. The water was moving fast with 4 gates open. Hoping to get some white bass as next weekend. Good luck.
Fish ka Bob, the eyes are pretty much done spawning. There are always a few stragglers but prob not many. There are still post spawn eyes in the river. Just have to look for them. A few white bass showing up way down river. Lots of short walleyes and some legals in the river. Once this water starts to drop more it will make for some fun fishing for kids and families off shore who just want to catch fish.
SS Mikey, flow is around 20,000 cfs. Normal flow is closer to 6,000 for this time in April.Water is still high and fast but coming down slowly. Expect to have a lot of leaves and debris in the water like normal with high water. Clarity is less than 2 1/2 feet.
