Heading out Friday to drill a few test holes for depth. Hoping the next few days of normal winter weather will help out. Plan on fishing sunday if ice is safe.

FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 3"
The only place on the lake that is safe is the northwest area. You will have to go on at the lower parking lot and go along the bank. Fished Wednesday night and marked quite a few, but could only muster a couple small crappies. Quite a few guys out there when I arrived late in the afternoon. A majority of the lake is open water after the strong winds earlier in the week. Doesn't sound like good news in the weather report.

Slow going bring on the ice time to put away the boat and catch fish. Bait shop on corner pulled bait and switch jug taking donations for walleyes he thought best used for more slime rockets yup more northerns. wouldn't think about donations for a while he isn't doing as promised sounds like the politicians. Sad

Fished the lake Saturday morning from 6:30am to noon and the bite was slow not much to speak of other than a few bluegills. Sunday hit the water from noon to 4pm and had some nice blow ups with the large mouth ranging from 2.5lb - 5lb. It was a good day.

Tight-lines

Got out yesterday about 1:00 fished till 7. Caught a few bass nothing big. Saw a few monster largemouths and one 30+ inch pike and a few decent walleys. Water is crystal clear. I can see bottom in 15 fow. Weeds in shallows about 20- 30 ft off shore on average around the lake. Its nice to see that the lake is holding big fish. Just have to get out there and catch and realease them. Lake management says they suggest people keep a bag limit (5) of 11-13.5 inch bass to help the population of big bass and release the big ones so other people can have fun catching them. I know most people won't do this but if some do it will definetly help.

Blackhawk is a good lake for bass and gills in my mind. Couple things though that come to mind. There is a no wake on the hole lake, so that will make you happy to not have to deal with jet skis.

There is also no size limit on lm bass, I've had the most luck with them on a shartrose booya spinner with painted blades. The lake will be pretty weedy by then, so plan on fishing in heavy weeds and slime. I'll switch to plastic dropshots and wacky worms late summer.

They have an abundance of gills, so definately bring along some pan fishing polls and wax worms and you'll get a kick out of them.

The lake also has a relatively good walley population (I say relatively because I have yet to catch one yet), I have seen and talked to a few guys down there that have good luck trolling and jigging along the steep drops.

If you want more info, let me know, this is by far my favorite lake to fish, just a little to long of a drive.
