Dear PLPOA Member,
The Sokaogon Chippewa Community will be performing a walleye survey on Pelican Lake this spring. The survey will consist of a combination of fyke netting and nighttime boat electrofishing. Most of the ice out on Pelican, so they will be starting the survey early-mid this week (week of April 10). They will set 15 fyke nets through-out the lake on walleye spawning sites. Each day they will empty all fish of all species from the nets, ID and count them, and in the case of walleye measure, determine sex, take a dorsal fin spine for later aging, and fin clip them. The nets are reset each day. This will continue for 7-10 days.
They are looking for a few volunteers to help with these activities. If you are interested in the daytime work involving the fake netting or the nighttime electrofishing please respond to this e-mail with your contact information and what activity(s) you would like to help with.
Thanks much and hope you are enjoying this last taste of Winter! The PLPOA Board
I would even call the local department and see if you could join them when they pull the nets and do the sampling. I have done that a couple of times in different areas and it is a lot of fun!
