Regarding Boiling Springs.......I haven't stopped there for about a year, but if Pam still owns that place, you'll be happy. She's great fun. Food's simple, but great and the bar has a nice cliental.
Regarding the Pelican Lake fishery..........One of the most productive lakes in WI. I primarily fish this lake in the winter and go 20 or more times/year as I live close (Rhinelander. ) The combo of spearing and very hard fishing pressure has taken a huge toll on the number of quality fish. That said, you can still go out there and catch some very nice panfish, walleyes. Don't get me wrong.....I'm vehemently opposed to spearing, but it is the way it is. What bothers me almost as much is when I see people out there fishing the first month of ice, when the eye action is hot, catching and keeping more than their limit. Two wrongs don't make a right. The walleye limit sucks. Period, but is the only control measure to maintain the population other than limits, is self-restraint.
I haven't fished there yet this year, but if the pan fish limit is the same, it needs to be reduced. I would very much like to see a collective limit of 15 pan fish. Agree totally on the predatory fish imbalance being way skewed towards a very high bass population.
