FISHING REPORT
5/18/13 8:51 AM CST
Conditions: Raining Air Temp: 51° - 55° F
Hit a small (less than 100 acres) Fond Du Lac county lake Friday afternoon with my kayak from 1-4pm. Thought the rain would let up, didn't ever fully stop raining, east wind @ 15. Stayed out out of the wind as much as possible. Everything caught in 6 fow or less, most right next to shore. Even in the clouds/rain I could see them guarding and they weren't fleeing when I threw something at them. Caught 10 LM, 9 of them legal, biggest was 17, everything on plastics.

FISHING REPORT

Got out Fri. nite from 4 to 8 on a small Waukesha Co, lake. My experience was similar to mcsb a few posts back. We might have even been fishing the same lake. The fishing was ok for the middle of May. Caught 14 largemouth, one smallmouth and a 9 inch gill fishing an unweighted Senko in water under 7 ft deep. 6 were from 14 to 18 inches. Only 3 were females, two were spawned out. Most of the fish were caught in one bay that still had warm water despite the cold front, 73 degrees. Some bass had spawned already in the warm bay and males were guarding the nests. The rest of the lake was 65-68 degrees and the males had abandoned 95% of the un-used nests due to the cold front. Lots of good sized gills were shallow but I stuck with bass fishing.

Walleye bite on river starting to wind down, had my best spring ever this year with the high water. Switching gears to bass last few days and me and Bass Vac caught just under 100 bass on Thursday and Friday. Thursday was a small pond, water was pretty dirty although we have seen it worse, caught 20 at the pond with biggest being a nice prespawn female caught in some thick brush. We tossed jigs up near the bank, Friday went to a big lake that is usually clear and it was dirtied up a bit. We caught over 60 bass, 20 smallies and 40+ largemouth. Used lipless cranks, jerkbaits, and tubes. Some bass are spawning but I would say majority on main lake still prespawn. Tourney time this weekend.

Google wdnr shore fishing and you'll find a number of resources.
SE WI is a big area. People seldom post "hot spots" on the internet any more.

Luv2Hnt, I was using a 1/64th oz jig with a 6 foot Cabelas rod and there was no way I could get much distance in the wind that must have been maybe 15 mph. Regardless, boat positioning is half of the game.

jimbo55will turn on your PM.
I use a 6' St Croix ultra light with 4 lb Fireline and a 2 lb floro leader. I could throw the 1/8 oz into the wind. My kid only has a 5' and not enough tip snap to zing it into the wind. Regardless of which direction you cast the wind still bowed the line. Fishing is always better in the chop.

Wow! I hadn't realized until now how similar my report was to the one just before it. You would think we were fishing together or knew each other. We weren't and I don't. Just to add a few things that might be helpful--and some of these might be quite obvious--you had to be fishing a windward shore and casting with the wind. I was using an ultralite rod with 2 pound test line and there's no way you can cast into the wind and get it very far from the boat. A "Cubby" plastic is just like a Minimite if you're familiar with those. Bob's Bait on Hwy 100 has them. I tried other colored jigs and it seemed that only the pink was producing fish. In fact all the fish were caught on the pink and white combination. I'm no expert but I thought I'd just list a few things that tipped the odds in my favor on the last few outings. OK, back to bed, I couldn't sleep. Jim

FISHING REPORT
5/15/13 5:27 PM CST
Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 66° - 70° F Water Temp: 56° - 60° F
Caught a limit of crappies and bluegills--18 cr. and 7 bg. The water cooled down from last week's high of 65 degrees, today it was only 59-60 degrees. Consequently the crappies moved out of the standing weeds to suspend in deeper water. I was fishing 18 to 20 feet of water throwing a 1/64 oz pink jighead with a white cubby tail, no bobber. I was letting it sink only for a couple of seconds and twitching it back to the boat. Most of the hits would come on the hesitation as the lure was falling. Crappies were up to 12 inches and the gills were 8 inches. Very subtle bite--you had to watch your line. This was on a Waukesha County lake. Jim

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 71° - 75° F Water Temp: 61° - 65° F
Fished tonight a Waukesha County lake 17:30 to 19:30 . Just got off the lake in time, home, and back in the garage before the rain. Ended up keeping 15 crappies all over 10 inches and a 9 inch gill between my son and I. Threw back another dozen smaller bass, crappies and gills. All fish came suspended 3 to 6 ft down in 12 to 20 FOW, casting small plastics on a 1/16 or 1/32 jig, no bobber. Had to watch your line for a strike with the bow in it from the wind. Let it free fall for a 10 count with the wind and twitch it back. You would not feel the strike, but just the line straighten out.
