Fished lutz park this afternoon for two hours. It was a waste of time and will continue to be so until water levels rise in the inner channel. It may still be ok for catfishing at night.

Water is very shallow in many areas with little current. There is a lot of garbage in the water including snarls of cut lines in various spots. There were a lot of people all with the same rigs consisting of red and white nobber split shot and hook with a small piece of crawler. Saw one sunfish caught. about 3 inches long and one small freshwater drum several inches long. No one else caught anything. About 15 people were fishing.

I was pitching jigs into current seams and eddies as well as swimming grubs and working spinnerbaits and fancasting deeper areas. Nothing in 2 hours. The water is very clear and I did observe hordes of freshwater drum feeding in the inner and outer channels as well as scattered fry, minnows and the occasional tiny sunfish pick insects off the water.

Its a zoo down there currently with too many disrespectful people and amateurs with cheap bobber rigs. Lots of loose dogs as well as people not respecting personal space or where you're fishing. People climbing out on islands and lots of people acting stupid.

Any worthwhile game fish has moved to deeper water until current rises at least a foot or more.

Don't waste your time.

Anyone catching any decent panfish action anywhere? PM me. Thanks.

If your looking for bass try by any of the damns on the lower sides. Law street in Appleton can be good to there is a long rock wall you can try. Use a jig and a tail almost everywhere and you can get a small mouth. Another good spot is Sunset park in Kimberly or anywhere along the Bike trial in Appleton (Telulah Park). Try during the day or Before sundown and you should have luck. If you are willing to drive 15mins there are also lots of good spots in Neenah Menasha area.

I'm trying to find some fishing spots for my son and I to head to. I've lived in Appleton for 6 years and never got into fishing down here. I would like any info anyone is willing to share. Thanks!

If you are not at the river fishing, you are missing some of the best bite so far this year. We got everything from bass to pike to all kinds of pan fish and I won't even mention how good the cat fishing has been. Have off work this week and am fishing the whole week

Fished catfish for an hour tonight 8:30-9:30 to see if they are where I hoped they would be and they are. My son will be happy to catch some cats again! Got this guy on bluegill cutbait/nightcrawler combo. Thanks to GoinFichin for the tip on where I could pick up a couple gills for cutbait. Felt nice to fish the Fox from shore again and give Bago a little break.

Fished lutz park today from 9 til 10 roughly this morning. I used a light rod spooled with 4 lb test and 1/8 and 1/16 oz jig n plastics. No bites on the 1/8 ounce rig and snagged up too much n broke off after half hour and several snags. I tied on a 1/16 oz darter jighead n plastic n started getting aggressive bites on another section of the river and caught three smallmouth bass a few minutes apart and had 2 more solid hits I couldn't set on quick enough. The key was the 1/16 oz darter jighead and watching the drop closely. They hammered it either on the drop or shortly after starting the retrieve. I was targeting current seams, boils and eddies in the river letting it drop dead then a slow darting retrieve.

Not very big measuring in at 8, 9 and 11 inches respectively but a lot of fun on 4 lb test. Saw schools of fry as well as sheephead in shallow calm pockets of water.

I left after fishing out the section I was in but I'm sure the bass are still hitting aggressively in other sections.

Water temp was 56.5 last time I checked before I started fishing.

Hey guys quick question for you. I was fishing off the fox tonight and I got a fish up to the ledge where I was fishing and dont know what kind. It had a "troutish" looking mouth and a very noticable green on the underneath side. I was thinking it was a bowfin but not sure. Anyone know for sure what kind it is?

There are tons of channel cats in the warm shallow side-waters as of right now.

It seems the same places that carp are congregating are the same areas the cats can be found right now. caught a few channels in the low 20's last week already and it should only be getting better.

Side note: I had a 30" plus FATTY pike up to shore the other day but he jumped, flipped, threw my #5 MEPPS spinner, and swam off just as I was grabbing for him.

LASTLY, TO PHANTOM. THERE ARE :FISH OF WISCONSIN" BOOKS AVAILABLE AT FLEET FARM, AND THE WI DNR WEBSITE CAN EASILY BE FOUND FROM GOOGLE. LOL. Evil Grin
