Still a quite few trucks driving out. We atv'd it out instead. Sloppy on the way out & sloppier on the way back in. Some spots had a couple inches of crusted over slush/water. Top 4" of ice was soft. Did well 45' water 8:00-11:00 in the morn on whites.

Many people bleed out their fish by cutting to ripping the gills. this drains most of the blood out and results in cleaner flesh to the fillets. Also whitefish are slippery to handle and pinching them in the gills ia a good way to grip them resulting in the bleed.

Might be a stupid question but have never fished for or caught a whitefish. Why are they always bloody in the pictures?do you open them up after you catch them?letting them bleed out. PEACE, Dobber Cool Big Smile Cool

Finnlander...read earlier posts...should answer your question. Guess it was in the shallowest part of Larsen's reef where it gets thin quickest.

I heard a truck went through and down near larsons. Very reliable source. Anyone else hear anything.

FISHING REPORT
3/23/14 10:06 PM CST
Ice Depth: 30" Conditions: Sunny
Went out of Sand Bay today following the tracks west of the old plowed road and went up to Larsons Reef. Fished in 30 feet of water and had a limit for two in just over 4 hours. Numerous fish were 22" or better. Only 4 fish came on a slider, with the best bottom baits by far being VMC Tumbler Spoons we had picked up from Rick and Dee at AMA Archery Bait and Tackle. The ice is in great shape with a couple of inches of snow. Saw a few other trucks and atv's, and even a car. Hope to make it up again next weekend and will post a report. Good luck to all and be safe.

Correct he was on the shallow part of the reef. Said there was only 6" of ice where it broke through. Truck went through ice but it was shallow enough that it never completely sunk. Top of the cab was still sticking out. We had talked to the group earlier in the day and advised them to stay on the other tire tracks if not familiar with the bay. They didn't listen... Luckily no one was hurt other than the pocket book to remove the truck.

I just returned from Sand Bay (Larsen's Reef). There is plenty of ice- over 2 feet, but there are ice heaves. I only encountered 1 in the bay and there was a path that all the trucks were using to cross it. I heard nearby fishermen discussing a truck getting stuck, but I don't know where it was.
