FISHING REPORT
7/30/12 3:15 PM CST
Conditions: Sunny
spent Saturday morning up on Kentuck. Caught about 25-30 sunfish/bluegills/perch/crappies along with a 21" small mouth that was CPR'd. All caught on plastics. Since there was no wind, you had to move around and find the fish. Ended up keeping 10 for a meal and they were really good on the grill

I saw a ton of bluegills 2 weekends ago. Small ones. Boated one small musky and saw a few more. Not many weeds out this past couple years. Thanks to the home owners here who poisoned them all.

How's the musky bite been? Heading up today. Any good weeds? How's the water clarity? Last year it was green as heck and not many weeds.

?(Editor’s note: Columnaris bacteria appears when water temps reach 65'F to 70'F, and rain events cause organic material to run into natural waterbodies. When this occurs, conditions are excellent for the columnaris bacteria (Flavobacterium columnare) to thrive and multiply. Combine this with increases in spawning hormones (or other stress), which suppress the fishes' immune system, and the result is an ideal recipe for a columnaris outbreak and numerous dead fish. The most commonly affected fish in Wisconsin are bluegills, crappies, yellow perch and bullheads. Characteristics are yellow areas on the gills, eroded gill filaments (see inset), and sloughing skin. The bacteria are so aggressive they can also erode the jaw. The time from infection to death can be very short (24 hours) depending on the amount of bacteria in the water and level of stress the fish experiences. The fish die from osmoregulatory imbalance. (Electrolytes leak out of the damaged tissues). If you see these signs in fish from a fish kill that occurs in late May through early June, the cause is likely columnaris. If you think your fish is infected with columnaris, clean the fish and the infected areas by cutting it away and prepare as usual.) This is straight from the DNR website

It could be calamarus (not sure of the spelling) fungus, I heard of it showing up on some southern lakes, after spawn. I would report it to local fisheries biologist, just in case...

I fished this lake on Saturday and noticed dead panfish floating everywhere. Anyone know what's going on? Saw a dead musky too.

whoever said that the crappies were biting was right! three of us fished kentuck for the last 2 days a total of about 12 hours and just today had 379 panfish which a good 250 were crappies! yesterday was about the same but we didnt keep count! go to the big boulder with all the boats by it and u can use just about anything and the crappies will hit. got crappies from 6-11" most being between 9 and 10 we didnt keep any and didnt see anyone else keeping any so they should still be there. good luck and go have some fun! also 2 big 17 1/2" smallies today along with about 12 other small bass. lots of rock bass and an absolutely crazy amount of 6-7 inch bluegills ive never seen that many fish before!

We spent 95% of the time musky fishing and the other 5% for bass. Have heard of people hammering the crappies. Not sure on the eyes, sorry.

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 81° - 88° F Water Temp: 66° - 70° F
Reeds are up but the weeds are down. A lot of dead gills/crappies/perch floating around the lake. In by the rocks you can see about 8k panfish along side the boat at any given time. Just a ton of non-keepers. Fairly clear water conditions.
buddy boated a 35.5" this past weekend. We played around with this fish for about 20 minutes, he wouldn't leave the side of the boat. We could figure 8 him for a couple turns and he'd lose interest but just sit there. We were able to use about a dozen or more different lures to try to get this guy to bite. Some he'd follow, others he wouldn't look at, and some he'd try to T-bone with his mouth closed. It was like he was practicing or something. he flared his gills at a few lures but finally attached a little rubber rat looking thing. craziest thing I've ever seen.
