Heading up this weekend and I am wondering how atv travel is, can you still pretty much get anywhere or are you limited to snowmobile trails?

We took a group to fish in the high school tourney last weekend.  Fishing was tough but we managed to do really well on pan fish.  We caught a lot of 11"-12" crappies suspended at 22'-24' in 30 fow.  When they came through in schools they were aggressive and would hit swedish pimples with no bait.  If the fish was alone they wanted a wax worm.  Perch were found off of breaks in about 15 fow.  Small, orange rocker jigs tipped with a waxxies were productive all day.

Wanted to add that almost all game fish were released in the HS tournament. We did a catch, photo and release. I really think this is important to not wear out our welcome and conserve the populations.

Fished the high school tournament. Great day. There are perch in deep water all over this lake. Not the biggest, but they are there. Caught some gills and perch and one walleye in a deep hole next to a reef.

Huge thank you to the WIFA directors and all the people who volunteered their time to make this a great event. Getting kids outdoors is huge. Thank you to the Island Bait Store for offering discounted bait also. I also heard the Minoqua Chamber supported the event. Thank you.

HEAD UP MINOCQUA

Feb 16th and 17th about 800 to 1,000 people will be taking to lake minocqua and half of lake Tomahawk.   We have 1 to 3 coaches with each group of 10 students.  Hopefully you witness respect for the people and the environment.   Stop by and talk to a kid fishing if your out there.   Torpy park is our weigh in so that will be jam packed saturday afternoon.    Hopefully we can meat some nice folks and we are respectful to your area.  if not, please contact WIFA officials via their website.  studentfishing.com   It's a paper tournament for gamefish so photo, measure, and release will be practiced.

Was out Saturday and Sunday in 2 different locations on the lake. On saturday we fished 7-12 fow and had a bunch of action from perch around noon and then they shut off. Sunday we were in about 15 fow and had very little action all day and managed only a few small perch. I will blame the cold for our lack of mobility on the ice and maybe even the lethargic moods of the fish. I was happy to see the improving ice conditions though. This continued cold stretch is much needed.

Keep your stick on the ice.

Fished the Minocqua Chain off and on during the September 19 through 23 period.  Wasn't really able to spend a lot of time on the water as we worked on enlarging an existing deck much of the time However, we did get out early on two mornings and twice late in the day.  Fished three of the five lakes on the chain, but none of them proved productive. Fished mostly off humps and weed edges in 8 to 15 feet of water. Fished mainly with live bait, but also with jigs and small plastics. This was honestly the worst period of fishing that I have experienced in years. A party of 4 individuals staying at the same resort gave up on the chain and began hauling their boats to other nearby lakes, including Big Arb, Willow Flowage, Madeline, and others.  They reported basically lousy fishing wherever they went. I presume the unseasonable weather, and accompanying high pressure were the main factors, and probably drove the fish deep. We looked deep, but couldn't find enough fish in numbers to warrant fishing there.  Anyone have similar experience, or are we just off base in terms of our fishing know how????
