I've been fishing this lake several times a year for the last 37 years in a row. This is a super fishing lake if you know how to fish it at that time of the year your fishing. i.e. Memorial weekend would be fished differently then now, etc.  There are plenty of walleye on this lake with good size too.  We catch them all the time when casting for pike/bass so they are there.  The damn holds good numbers and size as well.  Northern size has gone down the last 5-10 years I will admit that but the numbers are still there and if you want to drift and cast you and the kids will have lots of fun pulling in 15"- 25" on average.  Crappies are plentiful on this lake and size is great.  My 11 year old daughter has a replica of a 16" from 2015 caught during the Memorial Day weekend.  Lastly, ice fishing by the tubes will get you flags all day long.

This lake is pretty much strictly a rock bass lake.

Heading to upper post this Saturday for a week with my two boys. First time on this lake. Hoping for a walleye or two. We are used to the traditional slip bobber / leach bite. Any help or feedback would be much appreciated. Please PM me. Thanks in advance!

Opening weekend. I see with the vast amount of traffic on this forum, this late posting is still good to go.

After three previous openers on this lake, it finally showed some promise. My past history from none caught, to one 11" caught, to every fish under slot, to this year... I definitely wouldn't call Post a walleye lake but maybe it's slowly turning around. The walleyes caught were keepers with only a few under slot size. The boat never caught our limit but we did have a good time. Mixed in with a handful Pike, one 30" and a good amount of Crappies, it was a good weekend.

I had a overall great opener, filled the freezer with a gallon bag and a half caught 5 walleye trolling the middle of the lake than i jigged and caught 10 crappies than evening, Sunday morning i had 3 bass by the river and 1 pike. I tried the shallows and the deep spots and found the deeper areas were best.

First… , are there any walleyes in Post Lake? Anyone who can shed light on this question would be great.

Ok now to my report. Opening weekend weather wise was fantastic, too bad the fishing for us was a complete bust. We fished morning/night, shallow & "deep", structure & flats, live bait, plastics, cranks and multiple colors… and had boated one 11" walleye. I love going up to the cottage but fishing for walleyes on this lake might not be a choice anymore. I hope others will post something about the opener or their thoughts on the walleye situation on upper & lower Post.

MOON PHASE
First Quarter
I've been fishing this lake for a long bit of time.

Few reports on this lake in winter. What I know is 5 northern over 30 inches caught in derby. Pretty good...all on upper post.

Here's some winter info.

Wanna catch a lot of fish. Small in size but numbers. Fish outside the campsite. You wanna catch bigger panfish go to upper post. Not as easy but they are there. Just have to find them. Northern are all over upper. Just need to get lucky once in awhile.

Hope that helps
