FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 71° - 75° F Water Temp: 71° - 75° F
Was up for the week last week and fishing was fantastic. Crappies drifting almost anywhere on upper post using twister tails. Sometimes drifted and sometimes trolled slowly.

Spent one afternoon fishing for northerns on lower post (actually 2 hours) and caught and released 35 northerns trolling spinner baits. All fish were under the 26" mark but the girls had fun reeling them up.

Also heard the bluegill bite was good on lower post but did not personally go for bluegills while I was up there.

Water temperature 69-71 degrees

Went fishing with my buddy Tom. Picked up another 19"er. on lower. Weeds aren't bad this year. Lots of opportunity on the west shore. They are lovin the top waters.

Last week end was great bass fishing. Using scum frogs on lower and nailed about a dozen legal. Best was 19" and the rest 16" thru 17". Two nicer pike on upper on spinner baits. Crappie hitting tube baits at the mouth of the river. Coming back this week end for muskie on upper at the channel and just in front of the boat ramp.

West shore most people troll the deeper "basin" for the eyes. You will have a hard time keeping the northern off your cranks. That may or may not be a bad thing At least they keep you busy. Haven't been there in a couple but I'm sure not a lot has changed.

So I was up at Upper Post Lake in June and July and the lake fishing was so-so. I caught enough black crappie, blue gill and a few bullheads to fry up and eat. The panfish were smallish but I caught a few crappie in the 10in-12in range. I keep trying for Walleye but no luck. I keep catching a ton of tiny perch though. Crappie and perch were caught drifting and the bluegill were caught from the shore/dock. Hooked into a really nice Northern drifting but lost it. I plan on getting back in August so if anybody has any Walleye tips I'd love to hear them.

Crappie fishing last weekend was excellent. Some staged and some in tight. Lots of keepers. Enjoy! Jig and minnow worked the best but plastics also.

What a bad year getting shack off the lake. We had to get a guy that lives on the lake with a small dozer to get our shack off and he had a hard time with all the slush, water and deep snow . Only good thing was it only cost $50
