Maybe drop your shanty near the landing and drive out each quarter mile and drill a hole and measure the ice. Nobody is driving across the lake yet and there were shacks that melted through which means thinner ice in some small patches.

Everyone i've talked to said 12 inches or more, but if you're nervous, pick the track you'll be driving and measure each quarter mile. Then go back and pickup your shanty.

I drove out the county park last weekend. Ice is good. My mother in-law lives on the north shore. Only open water I seen was in front of her place on the shore line. That being said out neighbor had his suv parked twenty yards from that. I drilled about 50 holes and we had solid ice everywhere. Fishing was super super slow. Good luck! Still always be cautious!

I can confirm 100% that the entire lake is not 14 inches and there are several areas to avoid that have thin ice. I would definitely not drive out that far from County Park. There was a long stretch On that shore it did not freeze very well and is still thin compared to the rest of the lake.

shantys going in because sun hitting causing ice to soften and melt underneath. portable shantys are perfect. shawano lake has sketchy spots. all trucks that have fallen through have been within 100 yards of permanent ice houses. soft ice spreads about 10-100 yards depending on the way sun hits. be careful guys... still would not drive out. be safe, tight lines...

So how much ice did you have? This is my first year ever with a shanty and any info would be appreciated. Did they go in because of the holes opening up or thin ice? Thanks
