Went out from Swan Acres Saturday from 9am till 3:30pm. Fished in the weeds in bout 10ft of water. Saw many bluegills and crappie suspended in the weeds but wouldnt bite. I did manage to get one nice bluegill and a nice crappie. Also landed a 11 1/2" perch on a tip up with a medium shiner. Caught two small pike on tip ups. It was very nice when the sun was out. But when the clouds came in and the wind picked up it was chilly.

Fished yesterday from 6:15am till 11:45am straight out from the frontage road to the ice on cecil side. PAthetic is best word. 3 flags and only a 19 1/2" northern to show for efforts. Fish camera noted crappies cruising around just didn't want to bite. Northern were laying on bottom just not interested in minnows either. ALL fish were swimming methodically maybe cold stretch is affecting them? We did not see many others around us doing any better.

Ice Depth: 20" Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: Below 0° F
Fished this morning from sunrise too 12:30, very cold, but the good thing is that there was no wind. And a beautiful sunrise too look at as we were getting set up. Had four tip ups out and went 3/4 with 3 good eater pike. Biggest at 26 inch. And got 8 keeper crappie. And the small ones kept us busy all morning. It was slower than usual, but the action was steady. Travel was good, with only a few big drifts, but there very easy too avoid. Cars should be fine. And 2wd vheicles. Solid 20-22 Iniches in the holes I drilled. Good Luck this week guys, and stay warm with the colder than normal forcasted tempatures.

Tight Lines -Trevor

I too would prefer to see a slot limit as those have been proven to work but at the current time being annoyed that it isn't a slot is irrelevant. This proposed change would be a step in a positive direction. The issue with a slot isn't that they aren't effective, it's that they can be a hard sell to the general public who are easily confused by something that to us would be a simple regulation.

I totally agree with a Walleye slot, just be careful with the Northers, they are a very aggressive eating and reproducing machine, could loose most of the Bass and pan fish. Guess I'm just overly cautious when it comes to governing nature.

I would have to agree with TBuck on this one slot limit of 15-18 and one over 28 with 3 fish per day. I also wouldn't mind a slot limit on the Pike on this lake as well... Lake Puckaway has a 32inch minimum limit and because of that there are some big Northern in the lake

I'd much rather see a size limt to keep be 15 to 18 and one over 26 with a limit of 3 for walleyes...guess I'll have to go

FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 23" Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 26° - 30° F
Fished the SW side of lake for a couple hours this morning. About 8 fow and some weeds. I saw quite a few small fish on the camera, managed 4 small gills on the jig pole. Also had 2 wind tip ups out with hopes of a crappie or perch, instead I caught a small northern and a small large mouth. Didn't see much of anything on the camera that was of any size. The fish seemed pretty tight lipped. Best combo I found was a very small copper colored jig with a red spike. This seemed to die off after a while and eventually had equal interest with same jig and a black plastic. Everything else I threw at them they had little interest in.

FISHING REPORT

Posting this now since there are more eyes looking at this thread.

April 13 is the day for the Spring Conservation Congress Hearings. Question #54 is specifically related to Shawano Lake regarding walleye regulations:

"Do you favor allowing only 3 walleyes (walleye, sauger or hybrids) to bekept per day and they must be at least 18 inches on Shawano Lake (including Washington Lake, Shawano Lake Outlet Channel, Wolf River Pond, Wolf River to Balsam Row Dam) in Shawano County?"

The rationale for this potential rule change taken directly from the questionnaire:

---- This proposal would allow only 3 walleye to be kept per day and they must be at least 18 inches on Shawano Lake (including Washington Lake, Shawano Lake Outlet Channel, Wolf River Pond, and Wolf River upstream to Balsam Row Dam) in Shawano County. The management goals include increasing the adult walleye population, protecting female walleye until maturity to improve potential for natural reproduction, and providing a variety of opportunities for the catch and harvest of walleye. This regulation should increase numbers of adults, thereby improving walleye catch rates, and the potential for female walleye to spawn. -----

We know that natural recruitment of walleyes in the system is an issue. With over harvest and less than ideal spawning areas the population has suffered. Over the past few years some very aggressive efforts have been made to help support a walleye fishery and this change would help support those efforts.
