To be submitted to the Spring DNR Hearings

The time has come to evaluate tradition over fair access and rid our lakes of the unsightly and trash riddled "permanent" ice shanties. With the large and growing number of ice fishermen and the crowded and limited, fish attractive underwater topologies on our inland lakes, it would only be fair to ban the use of these shacks or at least limit the number of days in a single location. In most cases these areas have become "claimed" territory, where you can camp on a structure all winter to the exclusion of all others wanting access to these limited resources.

Be it resolved that no party shall leave any unattended structures on any lake overnight. Winter fishing shelters including those meant for commercial use must be removed daily or within a reasonable agreeable timeframe.

Garbage is not coo!!!! Pick up after yourselfs. What are we f***ing 12!?!?!? Here's a tip, every time you go out ice fishing just throw a garbage bag in your truck. Pretty easy slobs!! As to people putting there shacks by yours, I wish I knew what shack was yours I'd point everyone who talks to me out there or anyone who I talk too. point them right over your way

I grew up fishin on shawano lake and have had a permanent shack out there for years and What I don't understand is why some anglers don't respect or use common sense around fishermen that have permanent shacks on the lake ?? I know we don't own the lake but please don't pull up 20' from a shack while there out fishing and start drilling holes and dropping tip-ups 10'-15' near there's !! Just because there's a shack or two there doesn't always mean there hammering the fish !! And PLEASE pick up your garbage when you leave ... Last weekend I walked over after a group left and picked up 3 empty propane tanks and some beer cans !! Not cool ....

Shawano has the same features all over the lake. Where you see Ice fishing villages is the best spot close to the landings for convenience. The majority of the best spots are away from everyone but they do take a GPS or solid knowledge of the lake to get to. My advice would be to see the contour/depth of where those villages are and find the same type of conditions where no one is. That being said 10-15 feet with patchy weeds near a drop off is turning killer as we get more into winter. And if bass count go by Webers point in 6 feet of water.

COORDINATES FOR HOT SPOT ON LAKE SHAWANO!!!

44°48'27.3"N 88°29'57.7"W BLUE GILL HILL: 10ft hump...fish on drop off side going down 10ft to the 20ft depth. Nice sloppy crappies and perch action! If your lucky you may even find some hog northerners on the 10ft hump as well. Have fun and best of luck to who wins the high school trophy! TIP TIP TIP: Swedish Pimple with a crappie minnow for results. Cool

I'm bringing my team over early to pre-fish and find our own spots. Like every other coach I appreciate all the updates and reports. But I agree with the whole premise as to why we have these teams, it's about teaching kids how to fish and to learn fishing patterns. For this lake it's going to be a lot of luck as to who gets the northern and a big one plus the 3 panfish groups but a huge thanks in advance to the bait shops, restaurants, and hotels helping out putting our teams up. Bait shop owners have been helpful but nobody is going to win the tournament for you through advice you just have to get out there and fish like any other day. Thank you in advance local fisherman for putting up with 50 + teams out on the ice and I can't speak for every team but mine will be all catch and release.

I am with jkb you are going to go a lot further finding your own info than asking for handouts. Put in the time like the rest of us and you will be successful. I did send you a message if you want to check that though.

Illegal procedure, I'm throwing the flag on you guys. You've got to read maps and use GPS to find your spots or inquire at the bait shops. Just kidding, I'm one of the coaches but it would be much more satisfying to you if you did your own research and then you picked a successful spot. Then you will learn the skills to fish any body of water in your lifetime. Think about what the fish need and it will help you. Use your brains not your fingers. Good luck in the tournament.

I will be coming up to the lake to fish the High school ice fishing state championships and I am wondering if anyone would be willing to share some spots with me for game fish and pan fish?
