FISHING REPORT
4/26/16 10:00 AM CST
Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 56° - 60° F
Went out Saturday for a few hours to try and catch some pan fish. We had some success for the short time we spent out there. The question I have is has anyone seen a Sturgeon in Shawano Lake? We saw two, from what we could tell, Sturgeon fins about 20 yards away in 5 feet of water. I've seen carp rollover in this same area before, but they looked nothing like carp and exactly like Sturgeon fins and backs. I see on the DNR website under fish in Shawano it does say Sturgeon are present, but in the many years I've fished and even lived on this lake I've never seen one. Just wonder if anyone else has seen one or if me and my friend are crazy.

My cousin and I are headed out to try for some crappie, perch or bluegill tomorrow. Does anyone have any info on where to try for them? I'm thinking about trying the north side in some of the shallow bay areas and maybe the channel that connects the lake to the Wolf River. Supposed to warm up pretty good tomorrow and I figured with the north end getting the most sun and the shallow bays and channels warming up the fastest that they will be somewhere in or near those areas. We've never fished pan fish in the spring here and aren't really sure what to expect. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ice is gone. Boat landings on west side are still unusable as of yesterday. Push up and piles of ice in the way. Any concrete landings have better odds of being usable.

West side is still iced up....not sure about the east. That will probably change depending on how much snow we get.

The ice is VERY unafe! I went out Saturday morning off the spinning wheel only access point that you could get on without full waders on and strangly didn't even need them there but besides the point. Walking out in the am was fine but by 1:30 I opened my tent door to a 15ftx15ft space off open water 20ft from me, so I packed up immediately and headed in were I found multiple very unsafe areas were all the ice around you caved in when you stepped on it I'm seriously happy as all heck I made it in ok I've never been so nervous on ice in my life and I spend alot of time out there. Major honeycombing filling up the ice with water making the ice super heavy in many areas and they just would just come out of nowhere ice didn't even look different. So if you're going out and it not in a few feet of water to where you can just jump out you'd be putting your life in serious risk by going out. Walleye runs or head north a ways to the ice. As for fishing after searching all morning I found a nice school of crappie that I got to fish for a few hrs all still swimming.

No, the ice is not safe. Many open areas already. The wolf river pond is also open.
