Is there any chance of walking off the South shore tomorrow I have doubts?

FISHING REPORT
3/10/16 10:08 AM CST
Went out yesterday. The ice has softened. Shoreline is starting to go. Had maybe 10inches of ice. Caught a mixed bag of whitebass, crappie, and walleye. Action wasn't hot and heavy but fairly consistent. Used smaller spoons and rapalas with spikes.

Was a couple of four wheelers out still, although I would not recommend that. With these temperatures, not many days left of walkable ice.

Anyone have a current ice report for the sand pit/leonard pt road area. Looking at maybe walking out this afternoon.

Here's a video from this weekend fishing on Lake Butte Des Morts. All in all it was a success. We managed to catch a mix of whitebass, crappie, and walleye. We were using jigging raps and small spoons with no bait. We all kept a bucket of fish and also helped fill pails for others. It's hard to beat a day like this out on the ice. Well, I made it out Saturday, went out to 8-9 FOW straight off Sand Pit Road. Fished for a couple hours without marking a single fish. Lure didn't matter at this point, no fish in my area. Quickly realized the need to move, move, move. I was on foot so limited mobility there. Based on the ice I covered, I could have drove my SUV out. Large group fishing to the east, witnessed plenty of atv and vehicle traffic on the lake, mainly going towards the group towards the east. I'll give another try next year Smile

Not trying to discourage you...just be safe in the areas I mentioned. I had heard they got some on Friday as well, but Saturday was a lot tougher...probably because the fish were passing through.

Thanks for the heads up, maybe I'll try my luck on Poygan instead. I was interested in BDM because my son and I were out for battle on the bago and I heard lots of people catching good numbers of white bass on BDM.

Because the fishing isn't even close to as good as it is on Poygan/Winnebago. Once in a while, very late ice you can hook into some fish, but for the most part, BDM is a pass-through lake for fish.

FYI, be very careful at the county boat launch and at Sand Pit Rd. The county launch always has a nasty crack right at the entrance, and the aerator and run off from the road ditch can make Sand Pit very dangerous also. If you can get out, also be wary that the river runs through BDM and greatly affects the ice thickness.

It sucks to live so close to this lake, yet I almost always am fishing Poygan or Bago.

Just wondering why this lake doesn't get nearly the amount of reports and other chatter on Lake-Link like Poygan and Winnebago? Anyway, anyone know how the ice is off Sand Pit Road?

I was going to PM a member but their messenger is not turned on.

Try the end of Sand Pit Road, it's fairly close to the fishing. Be careful, the end of the season is nearing.

Looking to head to Butte Des Morts for the first time this Saturday and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a place to walk out as I'll be on foot? I may have my 9 year old so hopefully not too far of a walk from the parking. I know I can walk onto the lake just about anywhere but a decent starting point would be great. Thanks

There is 1 truck that I can see off Sand Pit Road. Haven't seen much besides snowmobiles & 4-wheelers. I'm wondering where the sturgeon guys are ? Is anybody cutting holes ?
