Any ides best spot to put in a small boat? The two county ramps on way to omro did not look to good. One had no turnaround or parking and the other was made for bigger boats. I fish only for largemouth and wanted to find some nice bays. Just a small boat with a trolling setup so quiet waters work best.

I've heard conflicting reports about the ice being out on Butte Des Morts. Can any tell me if the ice is out or not? I'm hoping to get the boat out this weekend if possible.

Fishgirl is right..you can run the middle even out of the Chanel just don't stray south that is where most the rockpile reefs are. If you left 41 bridge and split bute down the middle with an imaginary line stay to the right of that line....you don't really wana go that way anyway that time of year...stay in bago you'll have a much better chance.....imo

Bassinbowler I usually take off from winneconee and to either the north or south end of Bago and when traveling through butte long as you are on pad you are fine just about everywhere long as you are in the middle an if it gets rough I will cut through sun set bay once in awhile too and that will usually knock off some time and it gives the butt and back a short break. An if you start heading further west towards winn just keep an eye on your chart and follow the bouys to stay in the river channel.

basin bowhunter the channel is well marked just follow the bouys there are some reefs you can hit especially in Butte deMorts. Right now everything is iced up but probably would be free in a couple of weeks. Good Luck

I have a Winnebago system bass tournament coming up in a couple of weeks providing that the ice is gone. We are launching in bago and I was planning on running through the river into butte des morts and through butte des morts almost to Winneconne. I was just wondering if it is pretty much clear sailing from the 41 bridge to the channels by Winneconne or if there are areas to watch out for/avoid. I have never been that far out into Butte des Morts and I might not get a chance to check it out before the tournament.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Went out Monday morning. Marked a few while fishing in the group. Only caught 1 crappie. Most of the marks were tight to the bottom and would not come up. Others around me were doing about the same. FYI- There is a working crack that was about 6 inches wide on the way out and could get worse with the warmer weather.

Ice Depth: 32" Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 36° - 40° F
Drove out from Sand Pit late Saturday afternoon. Travel was okay, but I would have been sweating it without a 4x4 as there was some thin ice over 4" of slush/water in some areas. I bounced around a pack of about 30 people, and drilled about 10 holes in 3 hours. I tried and tried to draw something in by bouncing a Buckshot Rattle Spoon like mad off the bottom. When I did get them to come in and couldn't get them interested in the spoon, I change over to jigs of many different colors (including glow) tipped with red spikes. A couple of marks, but nothing more... ridiculous.
