Plenty walleye, just small. Best areas on the west end of the lake by the rock pile.

Thanks for the update Ken and John! We are heading up tomorrow and will be hitting above and below the dam as well as the boat launch so we'll see how we do. Hope the weather holds. Also will be trying down on the town chain and maybe taking a run up to sailor lake if we have time. BB

John,

Not bad! This is the little one my son got over the musky opener. At least it broke the long winter ice.

Ken, I have 4 in the boat so far in 3 half day trips. On of our guides put 10 in the boat on Saturday. Action is picking up. Most of the fish we are getting are males and they are beat up!!! Some were still bleeding from their wounds so the spawn can't be that far gone!!!!

Hey John,

Any luck with the muskies yet? Was up over the weekend and I had a few hits but nothing pinned. It was weird, there were still some late spawners up in the shallows making a ruckus. I thought they had finished up a couple weeks ago! At any rate, plan to hit it hard the rest of the week. About 5 hours to departure! Tounge Out

I haven't been on Musser but was on the Chain yesterday, The water temps shot up from 61 at 7am to 68 by noon, the colder rain that we had over the weekend pushed the fish out of the shallow water but by mid morning yesterday panfish and bass were back in the super shallow water and going nuts!!!!

BB,

The gills are all over the shallows getting ready to spawn. No problem with keeping those bobbers bouncing!! Where are you at on the lake? I'm on the east end where the Elk enters the lake. Heading up tonight for the rest of the week!

Not a report but coming up this weekend with the kids and wondering how the fishing has been? Just looking for someplace to keep the bobbers bouncing and the kids happy! Thanks

Was good to see you Ken!

I did pretty good on the gills - lot's of decent ones - not a usual occurance on Musser but I'll take it!

Actually found a few new spots for this season - you almost never stop learning a body of water.

Good Luck!

Not much of a musky opener. The rains Saturday night put the lake a foot higher by Sunday morning. Looked like a raging river in fromt of my place on the east end. Had a couple hits on topwaters Monday after things settled back to normal, but the water temps plummeted because of the influx of cold rain water. My family did manage a bunch of small pike and a couple large mouth bass. Hoping for better weather next time.

Was surprised to see Marc from Elk River Custom Rods go by in his boat Monday morning and say hi. I hope you had better luck than I.

Heard from the Musser Lake Association and talked to the dam keeper personally, Musser will be drawn down 5 - 6 feet in September of 2013 and refilled April 2014 to do some repairs on the dam. One good by-product of this whole thing is that it should put a major dent in the curly leaf pondweed that has infested the lake. I heard that it was 95% effective on Soo lake's eurasion milfoil growth. I'm more than willing to give up my lake front for a few months if this works!! Keeping my fingers crossed!! Big Smile

P.S. Caught this 40 incher off the pier last week while throwing for pike and bass!!

Crappies are coming in shallower and are pretty active. Not much for size, but that's typical on Musser.

It's still nice to be catching fish again!
