MOON PHASE (82%)
Waning Gibbous

ICE DEPTH
7 inches
Had 4 gills around 8 inches and some mediums. Fish shut off for me at 3:45pm.

report from 1-8-14, Tried fishing in the zero degree temps and the wind chills. Thought with snow coming through the fish would bite. Fish were lethargic. Moved about 20 times but all I could get was a few dinks. 3 or 4 7 inch gills, a 7 inch sunfish, and an 8 inch perch. Left before the sunset bite, but hey it was cold out there. Lake has kicked my but this year. Lots of small fish.

Not much to see as far as big fish on video. Anyone know how to get the glare off the depthfinder, so it shows up on the video? I moved the finder up closer to the camera by putting it on a bucket. Guess I will turn the brightness down and try that. Thanks for any help.

We also were out on Lake George today from 12 - 5 p.m. Creepers were a must in order to walk safely. The ice was crystal clear and while it appeared to be only 3-4 inches, I put a tape measure down the various holes we drilled and it was actually a solid 6 inches. My dad and I both fished with flashers and we didn't mark any fish until we moved into a 12 ft. depth and there were many fish to be found. The bite was on briefly from 3-4 p.m. and we came home with a few keeper gills and a couple of perch. We caught a Pickerel (first time for that) and a couple of very large shiners/small carp... could not figure out what they were -- we should have taken pictures and posted, but that was an afterthought. Fish caught on orange jigs tipped with waxies and spikes. Already looking forward to next time and guessing there will be snow soon. Dragging the shanty will actually require some effort, unlike today when it pretty much moved itself across the ice!

Went fishing there today arrived about 1230 till 330 first time out this winter was a little surprised the ice was only 3-4 inches at the max..first time my wife and boys have gone in awhile and we're a little on edge of all the ice noise and cracking but had fun anyway nice and relaxing and quiet. .Although drilling a dozen holes without any hits..only put out 1 tipup without anything..hoping with a couple more days of cold weather things will be a little thicker and maybe with some snow one would be able to stand up a little easier and my shanty won't take off across the ice on its own Big Smile there was about three other groups of people out there they weren't having much luck either.good luck if you go there.i look forward to trying again.

Havent been out there this year yet, but in the past we have had some good luck with crappies the first half hour of light and last half hour. Gills were more common throughout the day and also a lot of tiny perch the last few times. Its a fun little spot to fish once in while, but because its a small spot we tend to only fish it a couple times a year when we want to get away from the crowded other lakes. One year a guy actually caught a 28in walleye out of there i heard. more than like someone probably put that fish in the lake I'm guessing. good luck!

I should have posted last week since I asked the question about ice depth myself. Last Saturday and Sunday I fished George and there was 5-6 inches then, even in the center on 18 feet of water. Caught some gills and crappies both days, but the bites were light. I marked plenty of fish on the Vex, but more lookers than takers. I was fishing with white spikes and an orange jig. My dad fished another lake with waxies and limited out on gills. Thinking waxies would be worth a try on George. It's always peaceful out there. I like fishing some smaller lakes where you don't have to truck a mile to get to a spot. Good luck!

i'm about to head out there in a few with a spud to check the depths, i'll check off of P landing and from the west shoreline as well. I will keep you guys posted.

Update. Went about 100yds from P shore and had about 6inches of solid ice. It's good to go. Saw a blue 2 man clash ack setup from the west side and holes all over

Stopped by Lake George yesterday. Looks like good ice. Wondering if anyone has been out to test it since those couple of warm days / rain early in the week. I was alone and not prepared to step more than 10 feet out. Wish I had brought a buddy, a spud bar and some rope. Anxious to get out, but only if it's safe.

Has anyone been out to Lake George this spring? How has the Perch population been over the last few years. I don't recall the last time I fished this lake.
