For all my Chequamegon Bay geniuses I am in need of some advise. I have been watching the ice conditions close as I am chomping at the bit to get up there and fish. I am fairly green when it comes to fishing the bay So my question is to you guys and gals is the fishing any good after the ice out or should I wait till the water warms up? What is the best tactics to fish I have a 19 ft triton bass boat with very little trolling equipment. So to make this short what are your recommendations for what where and how to fish after the ice out? Thank you in advance guys!

I'd guess at least another week and as many as two weeks for the smelt to start.

Several of us fished last saturday out by the lighthouse. Had best trip of the year, caught whitefish, splake, brown and a few coho. There was 28 to 30" of ice and we seen some trucks out yet.

Smelt Report, Thursday, April 26th.

At this time Smelt Season has still not started in the Chequamegon Bay as there is still ice on the Bay and along the Shore. Usually smelting does start in April but winter and ice on the Bay have been a little stubborn this year…it all depends on Mother Nature. We will keep you posted and let you know when smelting begins. Be patient...don't give up!!!

anywhere from the old oredock to the coal dock will give you a shot at a walleye 14-16 feet of water. small suckers or smaller goldens. spoons with minnow head or jigging rap style baits

Can anyone give me some advice.... I'm up and was suppose to be smelting but that obviously isn' happening but I did bring tip ups and a hand auger. No locator or sled. I just want to walk some where close or just set up off shore somewhere along the Ashland shoreline for some walleye or whatever else. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Was thinking of setting up by the pier off Bayview park as we have netted walleyes there during the smelt run. I have smelt to use as bait or can pick up minnows. Pm if you wish.

Thanks,

Eyefan
