Carolyn from Anglers All reports:  People are ice fishing the S-Curve and Bono Creek but keep in mind to check your way. They are walking on the Ashland side of the Bay with reports of 8 to 14 inches of ice in areas. The ice depth is not consistent and you need to check your way. On the Washburn side of the Bay people are walking and fishing from Bono Creek to Memorial Park where there is 2-5 inches of ice reported off the Washburn Coal Dock with rather precarious conditions! Call us at Anglers All and we will give you an update on what we are hearing about the ice condition. We advise you to spud your way. Be smart, call ahead. Know the area you are ice fishing. Bring your ice bar and safety equipment including flotation equipment at all times. Hopefully, the weather will continue to make ice. There are people fishing the Inland Lakes in both Ashland and Bayfield County and they are catching fish!  Check for safe ice at all times!!! Be cautious.

River Rock reports: Anglers are walking out on the Ashland side of the Bay with reports of 10-12 inches in spots. However, you need to check your own ice as you go. We have had strong wind so be cautious. There are people walking out on the S-Curve and catching some nice Browns, Splake and Cohos. The Washburn and Bayfield side of the Bay does not have good ice right now.  The Inlands have fish able ice on the smaller lakes and there have been reports of a good mix of fish being caught including some nice Walleyes and Northerns being caught. Congratulations to the Ashland High School Ice Fishing Team on winning the 1st Annual Ice fishing contest sponsored by River Rock and Bait Rigs.

hoping the gale warnings dont hurt the ice to much.  Weather channel is reporting 30-50 knots out of the west/NW and swells up to to 6-8 footers.  That can wreck havok on the new ice trying to grow.  Lets cross our fingers that the mid week cold snap is positive for all.

We went out to north of the lighthouse and had a good 8-10 all the way out. We stopped and drilled as we went just to make sure.  There was a large patch of pack ice to the north so we stopped before that.

Carolyn from Anglers All reports: Some people have started ice fishing the S-Curve and Bono Creek but keep in mind this is new ice so check your way. They are walking on the Ashland side of the Bay with reports of 8 to 12 inches of ice. The Washburn side of the Bay is ice covered, but this is newer, thin ice so be extremely careful. Nobody is fishing beyond Bono Creek right now. River Rock reports: There are some Anglers walking out on the Ashland side of the Bay with reports of 6-8 inches in spots. However, you need to check your own ice as you go. There is fresh snow now. Be cautious. There are people walking out on the S-Curve and catching some nice Browns, Splake and Cohos. The Washburn and Bayfield side of the Bay does not have good ice right now. The Inlands have fish able ice on the smaller lakes and there have been reports of nice Crappies being caught using waxies, golden shiners and fathead minnows. Continue to be smart and be safe!!!

We have not been to the Washburn side of the bay as I am not comfortable with the conditions.  Ashland side has been hosting several anglers, but caution should still be taken seriously. We are now looking at very warm temps forthcoming which will not help matters.  Could be a while still until people can start accessing Washburn, Bayfield, Red Cliff areas safely. Bring proper safety equipment...  Capt. JH
