MOON PHASE (42%)
Waxing Crescent

June 19, 2018

Carolyn from Anglers all reports: There isn’t a lot we can report right now due to the rain storms we have received this past weekend. There have been anglers trying their luck on docks and getting some bass. Right now we are waiting for the water to clear up and wishing everyone safe access to the Bay.

Scott Bretting from River Rock reports…..Anglers need to use caution, caution, caution and think safety right now. Due to the huge storm this past weekend there is floating debris and even large trees that have submerged and other obstructions coming in from Fish Creek. With higher water there are floating materials coming in. Use Caution!!!!! The water clarity off of Kakagon Sloughs and the Sand Cut Area is bad but not horrible, however, the Fish Creek area is as red as can be!!! There are a few anglers going out today at Second Landing. We encourage safety and caution right now.

MOON PHASE (31%)
Waxing Crescent

CONDITIONS
Partly Sunny

AIR TEMP
66° - 70° F

Huge amount of rain the last few days. Lot's of roads are out including US Highway 2 and highway 63 in Bayfield County. The Bay and into the islands have put tons of mud water out there. Also lots of dead heads and other items have floated out there making lots of hazards. The floods were almost identical to what we got 2 years ago. Fishing will be done for a week or two for sure.

Carolyn from Anglers all reports: Everything is happening right now and fishing has been turned on in the Bay. Small Mouth are in spawning and post spawning mode; primarily in the Sand Cut, Brush Point, and Oak Point Area. Along with the Small Mouth you will find Walleyes, Northerns, and Perch. People targeting Brown Trout and Lake Trout at times are fishing the 1st break using stick baits and also are going deeper for the Lake Trout using flutter spoons or spin-n-glos off of down riggers or dipsy divers or lead core. Anglers are targeting Walleyes in the shallows using night crawlers on crawler harnesses or jigs and they are also trolling the shallows and the channel with stick baits. People are fishing for Northerns on the Ashland shoreline. Trout and Salmon trolling has been productive, mainly in the channel and from Washburn north using shallow running stick baits.

Scott Bretting from River Rock reports: There are more boaters and anglers on the Bay now. It appears people have their boats ready for summer on the Bay. Trolling on the surface has been great in the Chequamegon Bay. The water temps are starting to warm up. There have been some nice Northerns being caught in the Bay. The Bass are getting up in the shallower water and are in mid-spawning mode. Bass anglers have had luck using tube jigs. Some nice size Walleye's are being caught in front of the Kakagon Sloughs area and the Sand Cut areas. Anglers have been fishing on the end of the Ore Dock base and the end of the light house and catching a mixed bag of fish, including Perch, Northerns, and Rock Bass. Drifting and trolling for Walleyes using crawler harnesses and leaches has been successful. Coho's have been biting in the Sioux River and Onion River areas. Fish are starting to move into deeper water. Fishing in the Bay has been great. Lake Trout and Brown Trout fishing has been good in the south channel using down riggers and dipsy divers.

MOON PHASE (13%)
Waning Crescent

Spent Saturday fishing with captain Nate Baron of up north guide service in Ashland. Our group landed over 30 smallies between 17 and 20 inches what a blast! Never thought this old walleye fisherman could have so much fun catching a bass. With the help of captain Nate this old dog even learned a few new tricks! Thanks again to captain Nate for providing such a wonderful day of fishing. By the way the smallies appeared to be 50/50 spawned out.

Hello Anglers,

I was hoping to get my daughter out trolling for coho or browns and I'm was wondering if anybody could give some updated information on trolling... Is there still a shallow trolling bite or is it too late? Thanks for any advice and feel free to PM if you like.

Any status on the smallies?  Just wondering what stage the majority of fish seem to be in?  Pre spawn, bedding, Post spawn?  Im not big on bed fishing, just wondering what we will be looking at come this weekend.

Thanks

ranger1950:

Plenty of good to great places to launch...  Depending on which side of the Bay you are on will dictate which places probably make more sense.  If you are on the Washburn side, depending on the wind you can look at places from Bono Creek to the south side park in Washburn to the marina to Bodin's and up to Red Cliff.

On the Ashland side you have the Coal docks, Marina, behind Angler's All and out to Second Landing.  Some have harbors, some have docks, some have a launching fee.  I don't know all those details, you'll have to do that legwork!!!
