FISHING REPORT

Mother Nature was looking down on fisherman today as we were blessed with absolutely perfect weather for jigging. My Kentucky boys and no experience with the jig bite, but caught on quickly. I started off in 13 fow near Tousaint reef where we landing 13 eyes. Around 10:00, I made a moved a couple miles north and found a pod of active fish in 18 fow where we finished out our 7 man limit. All fish were caught on hair jigs with no minnows (color didn't seem to matter). Fish ranged from 15"-25" with the bigger ones coming in the deeper water. What a great start to the 2014 fishing season. I still have weekday openings in June and July so call now to book your dates.

I just left the lake getting things around for tomorrow's trip and from the sounds of it, the jig bite was tough for most. The water was pretty dirty but should clean up with the south winds predicted this afternoon and tomorrow. On a sad note, a 21' boat capsized last evening and was found this morning. One body was found and the search is on for at least two others. Prayers go out to the family members of the victims.

Headed out to South Bass Island 18-25th. Can't wait to hear the report on the eyes this weekend. Lets get some sun to get that water temp up! Anybody getting their boats wet yet?

A few of my buddies splashed their boats this weekend. Most guys that had trips booked cancelled due to the conditions but a few guys decided to run them. From the sounds of it, catches ranged from skunks to a handful of eyes. The water is still cold and really dirty around the reefs. It sounded like some personal boats did better than the jiggers trolling north and east of the reefs today. I heard the guys who did fish had to dodge some big chunks of ice. I am hoping by next weekend, the bite picks up. If all goes as planned, my boat will be in the water next week at this time.

Ryan

The good news is, it looks like some warmer weather is headed our way; the bad news is there is still a lot of ice out there. As of Thursday, there were still guys on the ice, but there seems to be more and more open water all of the time. Time will tell but I think we are still at least a week away from splashing our boats.

There are still a few guys going out on the ice but the lake has opened up enough nobody can get out without an airboat. There is still a lot of ice out there and temps are supposed to be near or belie freezing until Thursday. Unless it warms up in a hurry, I am guessing we are still a couple of weeks from putting boats in the water. I talked to a friend who docks in west harbor and he still has 20+ inches of ice in his marina!

I currently do not have any weekends open until the second weekend of August but I do have weekday trips available in June and July. The past two years, July has provided us with the best walleye fishing of the year. Give me a call, email, or send me a message on Facebook for more information on a trip. We are expecting another great season of fishing. Lodging is available at the marina!

Guys are still fishing, but the ice is getting sketchy in places. I had a buddy fish today and was on 18" of ice. It is supposed to warm up and blow the next couple of days so I would not be surprised if it opens open.

Hey everyone. Looking to come out this weekend but trying to get an accurate idea of how the ice is by Port Clinton after yesterdays wind and maybe a prediction about how it will be after 50 degrees tomorrow? 6 hour drive for us from Wisconsin tomorrow so would appreciate some help. Have talked to a few bait shops but have gotten answers ranging from ice is great and will be fine to ice is shot and only air boats are going out. Just seeing if there are any locals willing to shed some light on the situation for me.

To all fellow guys from Wis... I have been fishing Erie for over 15 yrs now. Since retiring in 08, I fish from May until Oct. I have an rv trailer parked in Marblehead. Nice reasonable park with everything you need. Two miles from Muzurics public launch. If anyone needs info, you can call me. Just send me a message.

Yesterday was my dad's 60th birthday so instead of fishing today, i took him golfing this morning. However, I just got off the phone with a charter buddy and the fish were jumping in the boat today. He started out perch fishing and pulled 180 perch near c can and then threw out the trolling gear and caught 20 eyes. I am still open for a combo trip next Saturday (8-24)as well as Labor Day weekend and a couple Sunday's in September. Call for more details.
