The rain was horrible but the bite was good. The fish were caught on all kinds of baits and in all kinds of places. Best bite was a buzz bait fished in shallow water follow by flipping the shallow docks in the backs of the coves with a jig. The rain kept the big boats off the water and the good fishing kept the fisherman entertained.

This weekend was the IUOE Local 148 Benefit Bass Tournament Here at the Lake of the Ozarks. The tournament raised over 36 thousand dollars for the Ronald McDonald Houses of St.Louis.

Another tough morning on the lake. Caught some bass on topwater and caught some on a worm. The fish are fickled I think and don't really know what they want to do. Big docks is the pattern for a topwater bite.Bluff ends are the key for the worm. Expecting 4 to 6 inches of rain over the past ew days that will make them bite I think. I will  be fishing shallow for sure. I love fishing in the rain.

Was scheduled to go fishing at 6:30am however rain was in the air with thunderstorms in the area. sat on the back porch for a hour and then finally thought the lighting had moved out and the rain had dropped to a sprinkle. LETS GO FISHING. Went out and the first couple of docks we fished flipping worms we caught 5 bass. Then the skies turned black and the rain came. Back to the dock we went. Sat in the boat under the dock for a hour and a half in a lighting storm and rain storm. Rain and lighting lightened up out we go again. we were fishing a big dock when I thought I heard fish breaking. Turning around I saw the center of the cove blowing up with fish chasing shad. Off we go to get into the action. We ended up catching whites and hybrids for a good half hour as fast as you could cast remove fish and cast again. Good time for sure !!!!Then the rain came again and it was over as well as we were to. The storm dropped at least 3 inches of rain.

Great weather for mid August. The fish are still in a funk here and are a little hard to catch. You can see them on the locator but they must have a good case of lock jaw. Caught some on a worm today but it wasn't a easy day by no means. Oh well better that staying at home for sure. The fish were in about 15 feet of water and would eat a worm if you put it almost in their mouth. For the next few weeks fishing will be a tough one DOG DAYS of summer are opon us.

Haven't fished much the past week and when I did the results were disappointing. HOWEVER last night they bit a little better. We caught several nice bass and had one that took off like it was going to the tavern and never looked back.  Wow we never saw it we have no idea what it was but it just pulled the line off the reel and snap it was gone. Caught fish on a worm, crankbait and a plopper. Good evening of fishing for sure.

Took one of the St Elizabeth Fishing team anglers out this morning. Cody has lots of spunk and is a pretty good angler. He learned today that casting accuracy is a must and that you can't catch fish on top of a dock. We caught fish on topwater early then we started catching them on a worm then later flipping a Rage critter bait.  If we can keep this boy focused on fishing instead of girls he will be tough to beat.

Took a couple of guys out early thirty today. We caught fish off of wave breaks and dock ends on topwater. Then after that bite slowed down we started catching fish on a drop shot and a texas rigged worm.

Been fishing lots and posting not. The fish early in the day are chasing shad in the back of the coves in skinny water. They have been biting topwater pretty good early before the sun gets above the trees. Once that happens move to the main lake and fish a worm on the main lake points.  The past few days have been fun with the married couples. Some days we nailed them other days we didn't.But we still had fun that's what counts.

Good Fishing

Took the one and only Ken Taylor out fishing last night. Ken does The Outdoor Guy radio show every Friday afternoon at 3 to 4PM CST on ESPN Radio in KC MO or nationally Saturdays at 9 AM CST on Sports Byline USA. It is always a good time fishing with Ken. We caught bass on main lake points on a big worm in about 20 feet of water. We found a bunch of fish on a main lake point. They were eager to bite but not willing to commit. One hit wonders is what I call them. We did scratch out some nice fish but no monsters. The water temp is in the low 90s the thermocline is setting up around 30 feet in some areas so the fish are spending more time in the hotter water causing them to stress out. Please be careful and practice catch and quickly release.
