Some big fish are being caught on Jigs,Jerk Baits and Alabama Rigs. There was one bass over eight weighed in this past weekend. Needless to say that fish took big bass. That's a dandy for sure. This time of the year is when most of the heavy weights are caught but you have to remember big fish don't get big being dumb.Very few fish are caught over eight each year here at the lake. I would be willing to say less than a dozen each year.

Beautiful day today but the fish were just not in the mood. I fished a couple of spots that normally hold winter fish but just caught a few dinks..  I did catch a monster crappie on a jerk bait. I thought that was going to be one of many but I never got another bite. They were stacked up like cord wood but just weren't wanting to eat. Tomorrow might be a different story.

Finally the ice moved out of the cove and was able to fish a little today. It was a slow bite but we did manage to catch a few. The lake is low clear and cold.. Hope to fish again tomorrow. Jerk bait was the only thing that produced a bites today.

No Fishing first hand report from me this week as I have been working on tackle by the warm fire.. With the super cold weather we have been having I have not got any news except it would be dangerous to be out on the lake at this time... Yes we have open water every where but in the backs of the shallow coves but the main lake and the big coves are ice free. Do I think you could catch a bass YES I do..I would fish a suspending jerk bait and work it pretty slow.  If you find them stay with them as they are schooled up with balls of shad and you should be able to catch more than one. Make sure you have a spare set of clothes in the boat... make sure to always wear your life jacket and for sure don't take any chances. Be careful when you run into a cove because the lake is lower that normal and there might be shallow prop thumper where you go.   BE EXTRA CAREFUL OUT THERE..

What a beautiful day it was ... Hard to believe it was just a few days before Christmas. I actually fished with a light jacket on and was warm when we were rout of the wind.

Now to the fishing part the lake is clear and we had a light southern wind. Not enough to make a blade bite happen but we could get the fish to hit a jerk bait and a hair jig. We saw birds really working a point and bingo that is what it took to catch the fish. We caught four really nice bass really quick and then that was it for that spot. Its all good when a plan comes together. Fished several spots and caught fish but we really had to work for them.

Best bet is to fish windy points if you got wind and fish a jerk bait. hang on to the rod as you just never know when the big one is going to make you smile....

Good Fishin

Fishing was better for me yesterday than today. We had cloud cover all day yesterday and today it was clear blue.  The lake is dropping  it is a little early for the winter draw down and the lake is clear.  We need a cold spell so they will have to run water and that will turn the fish on. Until then just jerk a jerk bait and watch your line . You can catch them but they are not jumping in the boat. Tomorrow it is going to be in the low 60s so I know what i will be doing. A jig fished around some boat docks with brush will get you bit also.

Went out for just a little while today and then the rain came.  well it never did rain hard it rained enough that the mid 40s made it uncomfortable fishing close to my home base made it real nice to go sit by the fire. I did catch a couple of fish on a jerk bait but they were not big but fun to catch. The water is pretty clear and in the upper 40s but the best fishing is just around the corner.

Caught several bass this afternoon on a Jerk Bait. Yes of course it was a custom painted Big Ed special and the fish loved it.  The water is looking good with about 4 feet of visibility, A front was moving in and I took my neighbor out for a couple of hours this afternoon. I fished the cove I live in so we fished some shallow flats and some protected areas because of the wind that we had.   Good day for me as I had back surgery again a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to fish. The weather looks like it is going to get in the upper 50s this week later so I guess I will get some more on the water therapy.

Beautiful lake conditions here at the lake however the fishing has been tough. Reports that i am getting that the bass are shallow and feed if you throw it in their mouths. The big gizzard shad are up shallow and that usually causes the fish to go nuts on a Buzzbait but that does not seem to be working this year yet. The best bait is flipping a small brown jig and craw along sides of docks if there is no wind.If you have some wind then then run to the backs of the feeder creeks and fish the shallows with a spinnerbait or a squarebill.    The crappie have been biting pretty good but you have to find them but once you do it is well worth it.
